GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY. 17
Great Northern Railway
T HE Great Northern has spent large sums of money
improving its properties to better serve the interests
and promote the development of the communities
through which its lines pass.
The Great Northern now has the greatest mileage of unin-
terrupted automatic block signals (light type) of any sys-
tem in the United States. Heavy steel has been laid and
curve eliminations made where needed to accommodate
with ease and safety new giant oil-burning locomotives.
All these improvements combined have resulted in greater
dispatch in the movement of freight, increased safety and
comfort for passengers. New passenger and freight equip-
ment of the best quality has been purchased and put in
operation. The Great Northern offers unsurpassed
transportation service between St. Paul, Minneapolis, Du-
luth, Superior, Sioux City, Billings and Pacific Northwest
points, with rail and steamer connections to and from
points beyond and is today one of our country's most
modern equipped transportation lines.
