I have expressed my concern at
length because of the seriousness of
the matter. I have deliberately put my
case in strong language so that my mean
ing will not be mistaken, and to provoke
a more fruitful discussion. I pray that
we may each of us in this university
unite upon common ground.

To those who would forget the
terrible humility that is the Lord's, I
quote from Isiah S3:
He had no form or comliness
that we should look at him,
and no beauty that we should
desire him.
The Church, Christ upon earth,will
strip herself of everything in her hum-

crees and attempting to enter into
spirit, an attitude of hostility
them is immediately assumed. As
ification for this rejection it is
then stated that they are not pronounce-
ments ex cathedra, and may therefore be
ignored. Instead of keeking to under,
stand the decrees, doubt is constantly
thrown upon their validity and they are
in one way or another dismissed, with,
perhaps, a note of scorn. This attitude
is as disturbing to me as the first I
have described. We must all, it seems
to me, hold fast to the principle that
the ordinary magisteriwn of the Church
commands our obedience, for it is based
upon the fundamental doctrinal truths
of our faith.

that Catholicism sets before
him, his vocation to the civil-
ization that does not die...
The attitude I have described has
apparently informed a number of those
who attended the panels. This, at
least, is the impression I have recei-
ved from the, at times, unthinking ap-
plause and laughter that has been given.
It is apparantly the opinion of not a
few that the meaning of the Council's
decrees is that we must now whole--
heartedly condemn the Church of the
past which rejected the modern world. If
was we Catholics who were wrong and who
must now repent of our tfins. This is
not the language of the Pope, and it is
not the language of the decrees.
The same attitude informs those
who welcome the new liturgy because
they regard it as a rejection of the
old, not understanding the beauty and
majesty of the old liturgy. It informs
the persons who, unthinkingly perhaps,
scorn with laughter those who feel a
real sense of loss when they go to Mass-
They refuse to understand that there kas
been a loss. Equally, it must be said,
those who simply condemn the new litur-
gy do not understand that the Church is
asking them to do so out of love, that
certain other aspects of the Church may
now be emphasized. For if beauty and
majesty are the notes of the old litur-
gy, simplicity and the sense of commun-
ity are the notes of the new. Let us
not, I beg of all, accept the one at
the expense of the other. Can it not be
understood that fyoth are good, that both
are genuine expressions of the One
Church, and that each is proper to its
time?

Now consider the gains to be
realized by a personnel of Radio
WILD! Both DJ's, news casters,
and otiier announcers, and those
who are involved in behind-the-
scene duties. The group I refer
to here already numbers 43 —a
significant portion of the total
enrollment.
Those who speak over the air
will, of course, notice an im-
provement in their public-speak-
ing abilities, some personal
satisfaction, and experience,
will prove of great value
seeking work in radio
fields, either summer
____ or a lifetime careet.
The business and copy-preparation
of the curiosities
the evening was the vocal range
of the numbers: almost all were
higher than Phil's usual bass
setting. Prehaps this higher
range explains the lighter, lyric
quality of the voice which was in
keeping with the formal yet some-
what intimate atmosphere of the
program.
The triple encore brought
Phil back to sing "Try to Remem-
ber", "Soon It's Gonna Rain" from
the Fantaaticks and the perennial
"San Francisco".
Special mention should be
of the programs designed by
University of Dallas graduate
David Hash,now of Griffin Graphic
Arts. Their elegance and formal-
ity "were well suited to the tone
of the concert.
