Melt chocolate and butter-
scotch morsels with sweet-
ened condensed milk in top
of double boiler over hot
(not boiling) water. Stir oc-
casionally till morsels melt
and mixture begins to thick-
en. Remove from heat; add
chopped walnuts and vanilla.
Blend well. Chill for about
1 hour till mixture thickens.
Line bottom of 9* pie pan
with a 12* square of foil.
Place 3/4 cup walnut halves
in bottom of pan, forming a
2" wide flat ring. Spoon cho-
colate mixture in small
mounds on top of nuts to
form ring. Decorate with re-
maining nuts. Add marashino
cherries if desired. Chill in
refrigerator until firm
enough to slice. Cut into 1/2
inch slices. Makes about 36
slices.

have. Ingredients should be
readily available at any of
the area stores. We’ll start
off this week with Christmas
recipes.
SWEET POTATO BREAD
This is good for freezing
if you can get it to the
freezer before it is eaten.
1/2 cup soft butter or mar-
garine
1/2 cup shortening
2- 2/3 cup sugar
4 eggs
2 cups cold mashed sweet
potatoes
3- 1/2 cups sifted enriched
all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1-1/2 teaspoons nutmeg
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
2/3 cup cold, strong tlack
coffee
Cream butter, shortening
and sugar. Add eggs, one at
a time, mixing well after
each. Blend in sweet pota-
toes. Sift dry ingredients.
Add nuts. Stir into cream-
ed mixture alternately with
coffee . Pour batter into two
greased 9x5x3 inch loaf
pans and 8 greased muffin
pan cups. Bake in moderate
(375 degree) oven 1 hour for
loaves and 25 minutes for
muffins or until done. Cool
10 minutes, remove from
pans and cool completely.
