Tae Kwon Do
students win
trophies at
competition
On Dec. 6, students from
USA Tae Kwon Do went to
compete in San Antonio in a
tournament put on by Master
Omar Garcia of Young Tigers
of San Antonio.
The USA students out of
Bastrop competed and brought
home several trophies.
In the 11 and 12-year-old
blue belt division, Dewey Over-
holser took second place in the
forms competition.
James Garcia took first place
in forms and first place in spar-
ring in the eight and nine-year-
old orange belt division.
Randy Garcia took second
place in the nine and 10-year-
old black belt division competi-
tion between U.S. and Mexico.
Robert Morris took first place
in die 17 to 32-year-old white
belt division in forms and sec-
ond in sparring.

Ashley Gadd of Paige was
the local winner in this week's
Power Points contest
She tallied 125 points to take
the prize and just mt—nd the
$1,000 state grand prize by one
point.
Mary Williams of Odem
nudged Gadd out with 126 of a
possible 136 points.
It wss by far the closest a lo-
cal winner has come to winning
the state prize.
The contest ended this week-
end. The final winners will be

Southwestern Bell is hosting
a “Send-off Rally” on Tuesday
fbr the Elgin High School Band
before it heads off to perform in
the Southwestern BeU Cotton
Bowl Parade.

The one-week layoff for high
school basketball teams is over
and there will be plenty of tour-
nament action as teams across
the state resume play.
In Bastrop, there will be
plenty of up-scale action as the
fifth annual G.M. Blackman
Lady Bear Invitational Touma-
The field includes a bevy of
recent state champions as well
as teams which have fared well
in tournaments already this sea-
son.
St Michael's, the two-time
defending state champions in
the Texas Christian Inter-
scholastic League Class 3A, will
be on hand and could challenge
for the crown once again.
Last year, the Lady Crusaders
defeated Hays 53-51 in over-
time to claim the title.
Two years ago, Bastrop de-
feated St. Michael's, 55-48, for
