Bastrop Recovery Center helps find solutions
By Robin Peyson
Special to The Advertiser
Where can you go in Bastrop
County if you have a problem
with alcohol and'you don't know
what to do? What if you're
strung out on crack, your life is
falling apart and you don't have
any money to get help?
Who can you talk to if you
have a teenager and you just
caught them smoking mari-
juana? What if you’re worried
about your drinking and you just
want a safe place to go to find
out whether or not you even
have a problem?
You can contact the Bastrop
Recovery Center, located at 106
College Street in Bastrop. The
BRC provides Alcohol and
Drug Abuse services to both
adults and adolescents from
throughout Bastrop and sur-
rounding counties.
Since it opened its doors last
June, it has helped over 550
people find solutions to the
kinds of problems mentioned
above. It is a satellite office of
the Austin Recovery Center, the
largest treatment provider in
Central Texas, in operation
since 1967. Like ARC, the Bas-
trop Recovery Center's primary
purpose is to help people with
substance abuse problems, who,
for lack of insurance or financial
reasons, would not otherwise
get help. -
“All our services begin with
talking to clients, to get a clear
picture of what the problem is
and what kind of help they
need,” said Bill Hasse, who is
the director of the Bastrop Re-
covery Center.
A former resident of Bastrop,
he left to work at La Hacienda,
a residential treatment program
in Kerrville, and now he has
returned to live and work in
Bastrop. Hasse is delighted to
be back in Bastrop.
“It feels like coming home,”
he said.
“Our evaluations and assess-
ments are provided free of
charge,” Haase said. “If some-
one needs more than outpatient
services, we can refer them to
ARC or a number of other fa-
cilities around the state for in-
patient treatment.”
He is a Licensed Chemical
Dependency Counselor and
works with adults in BRC's
Supportive Outpatient TYeat-'
ment Program as well as the
Therapeutic Community Pro-
gram.
Pam Lingle is the Senior
Counselor for adults and is in
charge of the Intensive Outpa-
tient Treatment Program. She is
also a Licensed Chemical De-
pendency Counselor and has
been working in the field for
seven years, four of which were
working specifically with
women.
“Having healthy relationships
is a very important part of re-
covery,” Lingle said. “All of
BRCs programs address rela-
tionship and family issues.”
Robin Peyson is the Senior
Counselor for Adolescent Ser-
vices at BRC. She works with
teens and their families.
Peyson is in charge of the
Adolescent Supportive Outpa-
tient Treatment Program, which
is provided free at BRC. It is
funded through' a grant from the
'Texas Commission on Alcohol
and Drug Abuse.
BRC is also licensed as a
training site for LCDC interns
hy TCADA. Currently, Donna
Sue Cipriani, Jim Clopton,
Dennis Glenn, Jeff Davis and
Kay Scott are interns with the
Bastrop Recovery Center.
“Our interns are a big help to
BRC and allow us to provide
more individual attention to the
needs of each client,” Haase
said. “We're here to help and we
want anyone to feel free to call.
Our goal is for the Bastrop
Recovery Center to be a
community resource for drug
and alcohol problems.”

There’s a pattern developing here.
The Texas Auto Writers Association just named Dodge Durango the best
“Truck of Texas'' While this is new ground for Durango, Dodge has
been down this path before, taking the trophy four out of the last five years.
Of course we design all of our trucks to be winners year in and year out.
You see, it’s all part of our master plan.
Or should we call it a pattern for success?
