WATER RESOURCES. 173
Principal Reservoirs in Texas
Below is a list of the reservoirs, or artificial lakes, of Texas. Natural lakes are not
included. Artificial lakes of less than 1,000 acre-feet are not included, though there are a large
number of privately and municipally owned lakes in Texas of this classification, the total
capacity of which is appreciable. Lakes under construction are included if appreciable amount
of work has been done.
In the list below the name of county (or counties) in which each lake lies is given first.
(Names of counties are in lightface capital letters.) In the instances of the larger lakes, the
name of the lake is given in second place (in boldface small letters), but names are omitted in
the instances of most small lakes. Other items in order are name of stream on which lake is
located, ownership (private or public) and location with reference to some town. The first of
the two tabulated columns at the right gives purpose and the second gives capacity of the lake
in acre-feet at spillway level. See footnote for meaning of letters used in the column under
Purposes."
