for election years, 1916-1942
inclusive, and (2) poll tax re-
ceipts issued by counties for
the two election years. 1940
and 1942 In Texas a poll tax
Is a suffrage requirement of
all persons 21 to 59 years
old, inclusive. (By constitu-
tional amendment in 1901,
though the poll tax was in
effect purely as a revenue
measure prior to that time )
The tables below do not show
full voting strength of state
and counties because they do
not show number of voters
60 years of age and over
Registration of these is com-
pulsory only in cities of 10 000
or more population How-
ever, an estimate of full vot-
ing strength can be made by
adding 15 per cent to the
number of poll taxes paid
The state poll tax is $150
