Southwestern Collection
photograph negatives. The collection, the work of Gary Yantis, de-
picts street and community scenes from over 300 Texas towns during
the early 197os.
The library has also produced two general guides to its holdings.
The first describes each of the over 400 manuscript collections in the
library, while the second covers the 300,000 photographs. Both guides

Recent acquisitions of the Southwest Collection, Texas Tech Uni-
versity, include the papers, 1958-1976, of Melvin Munn of Dallas,
who was commentator and principal writer for the "Life Line" radio
program (1965-1976); the papers, 1968-1973, of General Ross Ayers
of Austin, who served as adjutant general of the Texas National Guard
(1968-1973); the papers, 1974-1979, of J. H. Lambright, cotton grower
in Lubbock and Lynn counties; the collection, 1864-1896, of Anne
Watts Baker of Houston, which contains the diaries of Samuel P.
Newcomb and his wife, Susan E. Reynolds Newcomb; the papers, 1938
and undated, of the Reverend Cal C. Wright, a Methodist minister in
West Texas; the papers, 1907-1918, of Hamilton Spence, who worked
as hoist engineer for the Texas and Pacific Coal Company at Thurber;
the papers, 1908-1981, of Mrs. John V. Morton, a member of the Huf-
stedler family of Lubbock and an early student at Texas Tech; the
collection, 1940-1974, of Carriewood Stephens, an Abilene school-
teacher; the papers, 1951-1954, of R. S. Anderson, who operated a
service station and grocery store at Silver; the collection, 1907-1976,
of Mrs. Robert J. Standley, which contains research material pertain-
ing to Muleshoe and Bailey County; the records, 1961-1970, of the
Ralls Study Club, organized in 191 8 to further literary culture and pro-
mote historical interests; the scrapbooks, 1981-1982, of the Texas
Medical Students' Auxiliary, a chapter of which is located at the Texas
Tech University School of Medicine; and a scrapbook, 1948-1958, for
Dell City, which emphasizes the cotton industry and irrigation in that
area.
Microfilm accessions include the scrapbook, 1890-1967, of Fern
Parks Cone, a member of a long-time Lubbock family; the scrapbook,
1930-1935, of Mae La Palmer of Fort Worth, which highlights
her career in tent shows; the papers, 1873-1932, of W. D. Howsley,
Throckmorton businessman; the papers, 1920-1925, of F. G. Tracy,
early resident of Carlsbad, New Mexico; and the papers, 1862-1977, of
Josephine Hendley, pertaining to Seven Rivers, Eddy County, and301o
