Southwestern Historical Quarterly
Work is progressing at this time on encoding for entry into the com-
puter the preliminary list of articles for the revised edition. The en-
coding, a rather slow and tedious task, will, when completed, make
the large list of entries manageable.
Entries are already being prepared. If anyone is interested in writing
articles, please let us know. Guidelines are available for some cate-
gories. The entries will range from about 150 to 3,000 words, and the
drafts submitted should be footnoted. One of the major tasks of the
research assistants working on the project will be to check the text
against the footnotes.
THE QUARTERLY
The publication of the Quarterly got off schedule because of the
large October issue. That issue, commemorating the centennial of
the University of Texas, was well received.
A number of scholars are presently conducting research for a com-
memorative volume to mark the sesquicentennial of the Texas Revolu-
tion. The first three issues of the volume will treat topics for the period
1820-1845; the fourth issue will feature trends and developments that
began in the 182os and extend to the present. We anticipate an ex-
citing volume and believe that it will constitute a major publication.
We are deeply grateful to our editorial board (Keith L. Bryant, Jr.,
Don E. Carleton, Fane Downs, Margaret S. Henson, and Terry G.
Jordan) and to many other scholars who read and advised us on manu-
scripts submitted during the year to consider for publication in the
Quarterly.
THE WALTER P. WEBB HISTORICAL SOCIETY
In cooperation with East Texas Baptist University, the Webb His-
torical Society, an organization sponsored by the TSHA for college
students, published Volume 2 of Touchstone, an annual. Articles for
Touchstone are written by college students who are members of the
Webb Historical Society. Twenty colleges and universities around the
state have chapters. The Society meets annually with the TSHA.
THE JUNIOR HISTORIANS
At the National History Day Fair in Washington (actually the Uni-
versity of Maryland) last month Texas Junior Historians won eight
of thirty-six awards. That is the largest number any state has ever won.
There were three first-place winners, three second-place winners, and118
