4 pV~ 'THE BIRD LIFE OF TEXAS
By Harry C. Oberholser
Edited by Edgar B. Kincaid, Jr.
Paintings by Louis Agassiz Fuertes
The Bird Life of Texas provides the first detailed history and natural his-
tory of the state's numerous and varied bird population. In the realm of
state bird books it is outstanding. The thirty-six water colors and thirty-six
black-and-white drawings are by the celebrated American wildlife artist
Louis Agassiz Fuertes. The Species Account includes a brief description
of each bird, its world range, when and where it can be seen in Texas,
and an account of its haunts and habits. Distribution maps and photo-
graphs of major bird habitats are also included. The two-volume boxed
set, beautifully illustrated and handsomely produced, will be a welcome
addition to any fine library.

GENTILZ
Artist of the Old Southwest
Drawings and Paintings by Theodore Gentilz
Text by Dorothy Steinbomer Kendall
Archival Research by Carmen Perry
Packing his paintbrushes from the western reaches of Texas to the Gulf
Coast and deep into Mexico, Theodore Gentilz produced remarkable
paintings and drawings of events, characters, customs, and landscapes of
the old Southwest. Many of his paintings are reproduced in color for the
first time in this volume, the only book to place them in their historical
context.
