4"i. . 41 . , ., ,., ,-.Last November, the Fourth Court of Civil Appeals in San Antonio
ruled that the San Antonio Conservation Society must pay ad valorem
taxes on the historic Navarro House, which it operates as a museum.
The Society has appealed the case to the Texas Supreme Court, con-
tending that it should be allowed a tax exemption on the property
under Sections o20 and 2 of Article 7150 of the Texas tax statutes,
which allow tax exemptions for historical sites owned by purely pub-
lic charities. An adverse ruling from the Texas Supreme Court could
conceivably affect property held by other preservation groups in the
state. The Conservation Society will welcome support from any other
groups which wish to file amicus curiae briefs.546
