The museum car was visited by over a quarter million people in
Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and New Mexico. The displays, but not the
car, are now at an international fair in Sapporo, Japan. The displays,
under the auspices of the Department of State, are one of two exhibits
in the American pavilion.
ANNUAL MEETING
The seventy-second annual meeting was held in San Antonio and
marked the first time in sixty-five years that the Association met for
such an occasion outside of Austin. San Antonio and HemisFair pro-
vided a delightful setting for the sessions at the Menger Hotel and
Alamo Hall, May 16-18. Ruth Mathews, Suann Waight, and other
members of the staff did double duty to insure the success of the
meeting.
At the business meeting following the Friday luncheon, the follow-
ing officers were elected for the year 1968-1969:
President: Wayne Gard.
Vice-Presidents: Rupert N. Richardson, Cooper K. Ragan, Dorman
H. Winfrey, and Roger N. Conger.
Treasurer: Dorman H. Winfrey.
Wayne Gard is a long-time member of the Association, a former
journalist with the Dallas Morning News, and the author of a number
of books and articles on Texas and the West. Reelected vice-presidents
were Rupert N. Richardson, well-known Texas historian and professor
of history at Hardin-Simmons University; Cooper K. Ragan, Houston
attorney, book collector, and author of several articles on Texas; Dor-
man H. Winfrey, director of the Texas State Library and author of
numerous books and articles on Texas history. Newly-elected fourth
vice-president is Roger N. Conger, an authority on the history of Waco.
Ralph A. Wooster of Lamar State College of Technology was elected
as a Fellows' representative on the Executive Council; Mrs. Anne
Brindley of Galveston was reelected as a members' representative; and
William C. Pool of Southwest Texas State College was elected as a
