HSU Family Matters
On May 9, Eva Rudd (English) was 91
and the university helped her celebrate.
For the occasion, her brother, John Paul,
was here from Pueblo, CO. (He taught at
HSU one summer.) Era Skaggs (Biology)
was also present. The older brother, who is
deceased, was represented by his daughter,
Mary Carwile. Others attending were mem-
bers of the Rudd Lounge Steering Commit-
tee and Dr. Hall. Only Euna (Math) was not
able to attend. We had celebrated her 92nd
birthday on January 13 at her home.
But Eva made the trip to Ellis Center!
Thanks to help from her brother,John Paul.
It is, as far as we can determine, unprec-
edented that so many members of one family have
taught at the university. That makes it all theThe 1992-1993 Loyalty Fund topped
the $900,000 goal by almost $37,000,
according to Margaret Hoogstra, assistant
vice president for development, who
directed the annual giving effort. A total of
$936,925 was received by the end of the
fiscal year, May 31, 1993.
More than sixty Loyalty Leaders were
instrumental in working with their classes
to reach this goal. Letters, phone calls, and
personal contacts were used to communi-
cate the importance of alumni support for
the fund.
Gifts to the Loyalty Fund are used for
current student scholarships. This means
that students receive financial assistance for

would not be able to attend Hardin-

of gifts to the Loyalty Fund.
Loyalty Fund gifts come primarily
from alumni. Other sources are direct
church gifts, foundations, corporations,
and other individuals who are not alumni.
The Annual Fund (now Loyalty Fund)
was started in 1979 and received $140,000
that first year. Since that time a total of
$9,040,377 has been received through this
annual giving effort, an average of $645,741

The goal for the current year's Loyalty
Fund is $900,000.
