Hardin-Simmons Exes Head Four
For the first time in the
University's history, Hardin-
Simmons graduates head four
state Baptist conventions west
of the Gulf of Mexico. From
the Gulf and northward into
Pike's Peak country, H-SU
grads have received the con-
fidence of Southern Baptists
in their states.
In Texas, Dr. J. Ralph Grant
of Lubbock is the 1956 presi-
dent of the state convention.
He was elected to a second
term during the 70th annual

meeting of Texas Baptists at
Houston in October. In addi-
tion to the B. A. degree he
received in 1931, Dr. Grant
was awarded the doctor of di-
vinity degree in 1942 by the
university.
In New Mexico, Dr. A. A.
Du Laney is now serving his
second term as president of
his state Baptist convention.
He graduated "cum laude"
with the Simmons College
Class of 1917 and received a
doctorate from H-SU in 1949
for "a job well done!" After
14 "illustrious years" at the
Roswell First Baptist Church,
Pastor Du Laney this fall ac-
cepted the call as pastor of
the Los Alamos first church
in the "atomic era area."
President of the Arizona
Baptist General Convention is
the Rev. Paul W. Davis, 1935
graduate of t he university.
Coming to Arizona in 1946 as
secretary of the state BSU and
Training Union, he later be-
came Brotherhood and Sun-
day School secretary for Ari-
zona. In March, 1952, he ac-
cepted the call to pastor the
