EVERTON-FOX
The marriage of Marta Ve Everton,
daughter of Mrs. Nora Everton, instruc-
tor of speech at Hardin-Simmons Univer-
sity, and W. I. Fox, son of Mrs. Almeda
Fox of Abilene, was solemnized Sunday
afternoon at 4:30 o'clock on July 21, at
Palo Alto, Calif.
Both the bride and groom were grad-
uated from Hardin-Simmons. The bride
received her degree in 1945, and entered
Stanford University after her graduation,
where she expects to be awarded a Mas-
ter's Degree in September.
The groom, who has a Master's Degree
from Brown University, Providence, R. I.,
will enter Baylor Medical College in Sep-
tember. He was discharged from the Navy
on Jan. 17, and taught chemistry at Abi-
lene high school during the spring se-
mester.
JOYNER-CAMERON
Lona Joyner and Archie Cameron were
married June 22, in Dallas. Mrs. Came-
ron attended Hardin-Simmons University
in 1931-32. She was employed, until her
marriage, in the retail credit department
bf the Borden Co. in Dallas.
Mr. Cameron, who was recently dis-
charged from the Navy, is co-owner of a
roofing business in Wichita Falls, where
the couple will live.
BURGESS-DAVIS
Mabel Burgess and Joe Davis were mar-
,ried June 22 in the South Bend Baptist
Church, South Bend, Texas. Mr. and Mrs.
Davis have returned from a wedding trip
to Carlsbad Caverns. They are now liv-
ing at 710-Palm, Abilene.
The bride attended Hardin-Simmons
University for two years, 1938-40. The
bridegroom served overseas with the 90th
Division.
BROWN-JONES
Minnie Lou Brown and Paul R. Jones
were recently married at the Woodlawn
Methodist chapel in San Antonio.
The bride received a B. A. degree from
Hardin-Simmons University in 1937 where
she was a member of the Cowgirls. She
has lived in San Antonio two years and
has 'been employed at Randlph Field.
Mr. Jones attended Trinity University.
He was in the army railroad transporta-
tion corps four years and served in the
Mediterranean theater two and a half.
years. He is employed by Missouri Pa-
cific railroad.
The couple will return to San Antonio.
PARKHILL-DUNCAN
Virginia Parkhill of Knox City, and
Norris Duncan of Hopkinsville, Ky., were
married June 22 in the Knox City Meth-
odist Church.
The bride is a 1944 graduate of Hardin-
Simmons University and has done post-
graduate work at North Texas State
Teachers College in Denton. For the
past semester, she was a member of the
piano faculty and accompanist in the
voice department at Hardin-Simmons.
Mr. Duncan attended the University ofKentucky before entering the army air
corps. He was in the South Pacific 18
months. He is now employed in Hous-
ton, where the couple will live.WHITE-McNEIL, JR.
.Geraldine White, graduate of Hardin-
Simmons University in 1945 and former
resident of Abilene, was married in Delta,
Colo., June 27 to Charles Alford McNeil,
Jr., of Nucla, Colo.
The couple will live in the San Miguel
river ranch near Nucla. Mrs. McNeil, an
excellent- rider, taught riding while she
was a student in Hardin-Simmons.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles McNeil of Nucla, Colo., and
is associated with members of his family
in operating a cattle ranch. He attended
the University of New Mexico and New
Mexico Agricultural and Mechanical Col-
lege. He was in the Army Air Force,
with 30 months in the China-Burma-
India theater.
BALL-O'BRIEN, JR.
Bonnie Ball, student in Hardin-Sim-
mons, became the bride of Chester
O'Brien, Jr., 1946 graduate, on June 25.
Rev. Ball, father of the bride and pastor
of the First Baptist Church in. Sweetwat-
er, read the double ring ceremony.
The bride attended Howard Payne Col-
lege half a year before entering Hardin-
Simmons. She plans to continue work-
ing toward her degree this fall. The
groom attended Howard Payne and Way-
land before entering Hardin-Simmons,
and he plans to work on his Master of
Arts degree this fall.
FOWLER-HAWKINS
Fairie Fowler of 'Abilene, ex '45, re-
cently became the bride of L. Edwin Haw-
kins of Oneonta, N. Y. 'Dr. Millard A.
Jenkens read the double ring ceremony
in the parlors of the First Baptist Church.
Following the ceremony, the bridal cou-
ple went to Dallas.
The bride is a graduate of Hardin-
Simmons, and taught public school music
in Mertzon for two years. Mr. Hawkins
was discharged from the Army Air Corps
in October, 1935, after serving 17 months
in Italy. The couple will live in Abilene
where Mr. Hawkins is owner of Abilene
Cabinet Makers;: . .. :
THOMAS-WICKER
Jo Glennelle Thomas and Tellus J.
Wicker, both of Sweetwater, Texas, were
married on Sunday, June 16, in the First
Baptist Church of Sweetwater. The bride
attended Hardin-Simmons during 1943-
44. The couple will live in Sweetwater.
SVLETAS.-ANDREWS.
Helen Frances Vletas, daughter of Mrs.
George Demitri Vletas, 734 Cedar, was
recently married to Nicholas James An-
drews, son of James Andrews of Hills-
boro, in a ceremony read in the Church
of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal.
The bride was graduated from Hardin-
Simmons University in 1944, where she
majored in business administration. She
has been employed in the Abilene district
office of the Texas railroad commission'soil and gas division.
Mr. Andrews, who returned in Novem-
ber from 36 months of duty in AlaskaMARRIAGES
boy Band, University Orchestra, Future
Teachers Association, Beta Mu Kappa,
and the Press Club.
Mr. H1lden, of Abilene, attended Mc-
Murry College and Hardin-Simmons Uni-
versity. He served three years in the
army and was overseas 22 months.
The couple will live at 1825 McMillan
in Dallas, where Mr. Holden will attend
Southern Methodist University.The Spirit of

After being present for the biggest
Homecomning in the history of Hardin-
Simmons, Mildred Paxton Moody went
back to Austin and sent a check for $500
to complete her pledge to the Sandefer
Memorial Fund, and sent $15 in addition
to pay for back dues. She hasn't lost that
"Old Simmons Spirit."

BROWN-HOLDEN
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Holden left imme-
diately following their wedding ceremony
and reception, for a wedding trip to Colo-
rado Springs, Colo.
Mrs. Holden is the former Bettie Gene
Brown, 1358 Sycamore, and Mr. Holden
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Carl Holden,
1302 Jeanette.
Mrs. Holden is a 1946 graduate of
Hardin-Simmons University where she
majored in elementary education. At the
university she was a member of the Cow-
