Movement.
The Pastors' Union of El Paso this
morning in regular bi-weekly sessionat
the Y. 31. C. A. adopted a resolution
endorsing the action of the citizens
meeting of last (week in the nomination
of Messrs. Krakauer McBroom and
Stevenson as candidates for election to
the school board.
A committee of women from the mis-
sionary union appeared before the pas-
tors and requested the cooperation of
the pastors in the effort toward secur-
ing a half holidav for the clerks in the
retail stores. The following resolution
was adopted: m
"That the Pastors' Union heartily en-
dorses the efforts of the missionary
union to secure a half holiday and a
committee of three be appointed to co-
operate wit'h the women in accomplish-
in this end."
TWO MEN CONVICTED
ON BURGLARY CHARGE
There were two convictions in the
34th district court this morning Guada-
lupe Calderon and Bmmett "Winteres
both being convicted nd sentenced to

tentiary on a charge of burglary.
Calderon was cauerht in a vacant store
next to the American National bank on
San Antonio street about three weeks

Morris and Cameron Both
Building Yards in El Paso.
Other Buildings.
Following the issuance of a permit j
to Edwnrd Morris to construct stock-
yards on the continuation of West Sec-
ond street at a cost of $9300 a permit
ha be?n issued to John T. Cameron to
build on five acres on the continuation
of east 11th street in Cotton addition.
These latter stockyards -rrill probably
be "sed only for transfer purposes but
on the former site large buildings will
be erected for weighing rooms black-
smith shops and offices and this will
in all probability be a salesyard where
many cattle will be disposed of.
It is figured by some that the packers
are coming to El Paso and Fort Worth
will lose some of its trade to El Paso
which is fast becoming a most impor-
tant cattle shipping point.
Not oiany months ago. the Cndahy
people purchased ground in El Paso for
the erection of a small plant similar
to the ones owned here by Armour and
Swift but at the time there was a well
founded report that this arrangement
pvould be only temporary and they would
later build a large branch packing houe
to meet competition in this field.
FISHER TALKS
OF NEW HOTEL
Confers With St. Louis Men
Who Own Property in
El Paso.
John "W. Fisher returned from St.
Louis today where he has been on busi-
ness connected with a proposed new ho-
tel for El Paso. "There Is nothing de-
cided yet" he said this morning. "I
was in conference with persons who are
Interested in this field but two of them
were away and nothing definite can be
decided until they return. I am not in
position to say what the result of the
conference will be but things look fa-
vorable at the present time."
It is understood locally that Mr.
Fisher has been figuring with St. Louis
holders of realty in El Paso who own
the property on Overland and Oregon
street with a view of erecting a modern
hotel on this site.

Schutz have not ventured past their do-
main behind the wickers for fear of
bulging tho west wall.
"I understand now why 'Ted' Cooley
had little men like "Walter Arnold
around him" Mr- Wingo said. 'There
is not room enough for two broad gago
physiques in this place.'

TO NEW BUILDING-
Roberts & Banner Are Con-
sidering Further Is-
provement. The Roberts-Banner building- on the
plaza may have an added story before
it is completed. Originally planned to
be four stories with foundation and
walls sufficiently heavy to carry four
additional stories the owners of the
(Property are thinking of adding- at least
one more story to the building- now in
course of construction.
The demand for office room has been
so great that more than half of the bus-
iness and office locations in the new
building have already been taken and It
Is the plan of the owners to add an-
other story.
TO BUILD BUNGALOW-
OX COTTON AVENUE
C. E. TVaterhouset first trick opera-
tor at the union station will within a
few days begin the construction of a
five room bungalow on property he
owns at the corner of the Boulevard
Cotton avenue and Hutton street. Plans
have been drawn by architect Cart-
wright. The estimated cost of the bun-
galow is $2000?

FOR Y. W. C. A. BUILDING
Bids were opened Saturday for the
new Y. "W. C. A. building to be erected
on the corner of Fisher and "West Mis-
souri street. The name of the success-
ful bidder has not yet been announced
by sthe association secretary and will
not oe until tne contract is signed.

Through the W. F. Payne agency the
"W. D. Mayfield residence located at
1115 East Rio Grande street has been
sold to Herbert Allen Boas who is con-

Construction to Be 500 Mii.es

The Arizona Mexico & Gulf of Cali-
fornia railroad which is proposed from
Sasco to Port Lobos has been incor-
porated according to reports from Tuc-
son. Its stated approximate length is
450 miles but if the plans of the pro-
moters are carried out it will be 500
miles long and run from Tucson to
Port Lobos. The line has already been
incorporated for 513500000.
The largest Individual stockholder of
the system is one of the incorporators
Benjamin P. -Cheney. His associates
are Arthur W. Edwards Victor L.. Ma-
son "William M. Pryce George "W. Dietz
Benjamin Goodrich and William F.'
Staunton. N
The men stated to be interested in
the proposition are connected with the
Development Company of America
which has taken an active part in pro-
moting the proposition.
Charles J. L.. Lantry of Kansas City
who with his father constructed a large
part of the Mexican Central railroad
is tne engineer in cnarge. Mr. Lantry
also ran the line of the Denver & liio
Grande through the famous Grand can-
yon of the Arkansas liver and built
the road up Pike's peak.

Three suits for damages were filed
against the Santa Fe railroad company
in the 34th district court this morning.
W. A. Luck who had purchased a
ticket from Trinidad Colo. to El Paso
on March 10 1910 asked $2500 damages
oecause ne aneges tnat the conductor
put him off the train at Albuquerque
and would not permit him to ride auy
further on the ticket.
J. C. Parker employed in the local
yards as a switchman asks $20000 dam-
ages for injuries sustained on August
26. 1909. when he was hurt in the dis-
charge of his duties. He alleges that
the defendant company failed to use
safety appliances required by the fed-
eral . .t and a coupling pin struck him
in the stomach causing permanent in-
jury. Edward F- Sugg as administrator of
the estate of the latet Jesse McPherson
who died February 11. 1910. after be-
ing injured while performing his duties
as a freight brakemnn. asks for $40-
000 for the family of the deceased. The
petition alleges that the deceased was
working as a brakeman when the train
on which he was riding struck three coal
cars near Van Houton X. M. and he
was thrown off sustaiuing injuries which
ultimately caused his death. The plain
tiffs represented by the administration
are Mrs. Bess McPherson. widow of the
deceased and her children. Sadie B. 15
years old; Bessie. 9; 'William 5 all resi-
dents of Raton N. M.

W. H. Ames Eailroad Man
Has Close Call at Sta-
tion Baggage Eoom.
"W. H. Ames a former passenger con-
ductor on the National Railways of Mex-
ico sustained a number of burns and
lost a greater portion of his clothes
when the cot on which he was sleeping
became ignited. The origin of the blaze
is unknown. He was sleeping outdoors
on the south side of the baggage room
at the union station.
The smell of burning clothes was de-
tected by Frank Parker night agent
who threw several buckets of water on
the cot on which 'the old man was
sleeping and awakened him. His trous-
ers and shoes were almost burned to
shreds. He states that someone must
have thrown a lighted clgaret or cigar
stub on his cot.

Mexico Citv Banker Con-
ferred With Officials
in El Paso.
It Is reported that A. H. McKay presi-
dent of the Mercantile Banking com-
pany of South America one of the
strongest banking establishments in
Mexico City will resign and that in the
future he will devote his attention to
the Interest in Mexico of the Southern
Pacific of which he is vice president.
George J. McCarty first vice president
will in the event of Mr. McKay's resig-
nation succeed him in the bank.
Mr. McKay was in El Paso several
days last week and spent considerable
time conferring with Southern Pacific!
officials.

TRAINMEN CANNOT CARRY
VEGETABLES IN CABOOSES
Southwestern freight trainmen who
have been "deadheading" packages of
vegetables in cabooses for the con-
sumption of their families at home have
been notified that the practice must end.
It is stated to be a violation of the
Interstate commerce rules.

Frank Simpson storekeeper at the
Harvey house was relieved of ?6 last
week by some unknown person who
rifled his coat pocket while Mr. Siinp-

An announcement has been made that
the G. H. will build a nine story office
