The heavy fall of snow in states
north of the territory indicate a proba-
b'e cold spell in Texas. Only proba-
ble since Texas weather depends on
many contingencies. If the wind
should turn to the south to-day it
may usher in a second balmy spring
and Texas be flooded with mild sun-
shine while the northern states are be-
ing drenched with rain hail snow and
slush.

FORTY YEARS AGO.
3omca a drtam of n quaint old town
Ott my nal.lngeiCMtoUll;
Through Us ilcnr streets up and down
In faucj I wander stllL
Ah the uiurry times that I hail-
That I uovir uRdla shall know
Wbi oImio cureltt.s lad.
Just forty jiArs ago
I remember tho heat bj the beach
And the .vale washed by tho tide;
Anl I ht to tho prattling spoech " f
Of o dear ono nt my aide.
Tor n youn? face mado mo glad.
And sot my heart In a glow;
When I was 11 lad a lad.
Just fortj years ago.
But at length enmo a weary day
When tho farewell norda were said
And 1 smti bed ero I sailed away
A kiss from tho lips so red;
When the fair oung face grew sad
Aud Its ross forgot to blow.
Tor lovo of n sailor lad
Just forty years ago.
And the dreams of bliss alack I
That was never to take Its flight
Tbey aro here for they will come back
In tho silent hours of tho night;
And tears well well I am 1 mad.
That 1 babblo of trifles so?
Ah me I for the lass and the lad.
Just forty j ears ago.

Unter den Linden Strassc.
Untcr den Linden Strasso in Berlin
is talked of nil over tho world but it
is by no means tho handsomest or most
attractive street in tho world. In tho
first placo it is far too wide. For that
reason and becauso rows of trees nro
planted in tho middlo of tho street tho
viow in certain parts is confined to ono
side. Nor nro tho buildings uniform
in sizo and stylo. They includo
palaces small shops largo and small
private dwellings and thii-d rato hotels
as well as hotels of tho first class. Be-
tween tho sidewalks thero aro a couplo
of driveways for vehicles an eques-
trian road and a footpath many feat-
ures but none distinctive.
Then tho street is not kept clean nor
in good condition. Fallen leaves aro
allowed to lie and rot in tho middle of
tho street. Untcr den Linden mirrht
bo made altractivo for a park thor-.
uguiare uui lor a principal avonuo in
tho center of a city it can scarcely bo
considered fit or beautiful. Avenue
do 1 'Opera in Paris and Regent streot
London aro both moro attractivo in
almost every respect. And so is tho
deservedly lamous Ring Strasso in
Vienna. Indeed Broadway New
VTork and Boulevard Anspach in
Brussels although both much nar-
rower aro both to bo preferred to tho
highly praised Untcr den Linden.
''M. P." in Homo Journal.
To Seal an Envelope.
To seal a refractory cnvelopo use
tho handlo of your penknife instead of
your fingers in pressing down tho
flap. Tho gam on many envelopes is
of biich an inferior quuhty that only
after tho most harrowing struggles
can it ho induced to adhcio properly
but if thcio is any "stick" in it tho ad-
ditional lovcrago gained by tho uso of
somo hard substance like a knifo han-
dlo will provo effective. Another ud-
vantago to bo gained by following this
suggestion is that all danger is re-
moved of making tlio&o dirty htreaks
on tho back of tho cnvelopo which are
suro to result if tho finger tips nro
soiled in tho slightest degree. -Tho
