sessed of an abundance of will
From the Breckinridees she
inherits a taste for the law as
John Breckinridge her great-
great grandfather was an able
lawyer and was appointed
Attorney General by President
Jefferson in 1805. At no per
iod since then has the bar of
this country been without an
able member bearing the fam
ily name. Miss Breckinridge
Is unusually well equipped for
the practice of her profession.
It was largely jjirough her
efforts that the mors of the
Kentucky State College were
opened to women students
and she began her collegiate
education in the first class of
young women ever admitted
to that institution. She then
went to Wellesley College
Massachusetts where she
graduated. She then went to
Washington City and for two
years taught mathematics in
the high school. She spent
more than a year abroad in the
study of the French and Ro
man law. Returning she at
tended the University of Chi
cago where she continued her
studies of political economy.
For the past two years she has
been a student in the law office
of Breckinridge & Shelby her
father being-the senior mem
ber of the firm. The junior
member is John T. Shelby a
great grandson of the first gov
ernor of Kentucky and one of
the best pleaders at the Ken
tucky bar.
Miss Breckinridge is 1 young
woman of pleasing personali
ty. She is about the medium
height rather slender has dark
brown hair and eyes regular
features and there is about her
eyes something that reminds
one of her distinguished father.
She is a brilliant conversation
alist and her mind is so well
stored with general information
that she is equally at home on
all the leading questions of the
day the law social science
and political economy. Ex

With a better understanding of the
transient nature of the many phys-
ical ills which vanish before proper ef-
forts gentle eiioi-ts pleasant efforts
rightly directed. There is comfort in
the knowledge that so many forms of
sickness are not due to any actual dis-
ease but simply to a cOnstipatedcondi-
non of the system vLicii the pleasant
family laxative Syrup of Fig. prompt-
ly removes. That is Tvhy it is the only
remedy with millions of families and is
everywhere esteemed so highly by all
who value good health. Its beneficial
effects are due to the fact that it is the
one remedy which promotes internal
cleanliness -without debilitating the
organs ou which it acts. It is therefore
all important in order to get its bene-
ficial effects to note when you pur-
chase that you have the genuine arti-
cle which is manufactuied by the Cali-
fornia Fig Syrup Co. only and sold by
all reputable druggists.
If in the enjoyment of good health
and the system is regnlar laxatives or
other remedies are then not needed. If
afflicted with any actual disease one
may be commended to the most skillful
physicians but if in need of a laxative
one should have the best and with the
well-informed everywhere Syrup of
Figs stands highest and is most largely
used and gives most gen eral satisf action.
AM ASBESTOS SHOE.
A Massachusetts firm is
about to engage in the man
ufacture of a new shoe made
of asbestos and intended for
workingmen employed in
foundries and stneltinp- works
instead of thehab nailed shoes
now worn. A great many af
tides are made for smelters'
use such as aprons leggings
face guards etc. and some
times whole suits of clothes;
and now the demand for a sup
ply of asbestos shoes has
grown to be so great that their
manufacture on a large scale
is to be besrun. The leather
shoes now worn in smelting
works cost probably about
$2.50 a pair on an average
and wear out in two or three
weeks whereas asbestos shoes
it is clafmed will cost less
money and will wear indefi
nitely.
