ASbws rejiorter in making his
rounds this morning talked to a
citizens regard
of the work of
the Commercial club during the
year jist cloeed and the outlook
for the year j ui begun with
reference to the Uotton Palace and
other iuattbr".
J. Hansel Wood said: "I could
not be present at the meeting Tues
day night because of illness but I
was glad to learn that there was
such a largo and such an euthusias-
tic meeting. I have been a firm
bel ever in the efficacy of organised
effort in building up a tOA-n and
the work done bj the Commercial
club has re enforced me in that ba-
lief. We start this year with much
brighter prospects than wc did last
and I am sure a great deal of good
work will ba done. I was pleased
with the re-election of Mr. Riggin-i
as president lie is a liv !husthng
bard workins citi -n and had fiir-
ly earned the endorsement given
him. We alio 1 avo a good board
of director. The Cotion raiace I
bdieve to be the best thing ever
suggested for advertising Waco. I
iiope and boheve we can nae it.
Bart Moore: "1 consider the
Cotton Palace the biggest thing yet.
It would be ot intermiional interest.
There are now in the hotel several
gintlemen who buy cotton for
foreign house- and ihey all say a
Cutcm Palace would attract a great
deal of attention ajross the water.
They think it would bring visitors
from abroad and I believo they are
rigut. The (Jounneroial club is in
condition now to do excellent work
for the town and I believe the new
year will see Dig results irom its
work."
S. "W. Sl3-den: "If we can
havo such meetings as wo had Tues
day night and get all the people to
pulling together wo can accomplish
a great dtal for the town. United
ffiort will bring the Ammons imple
ment factory and many more such
enterprises to Waco during the year
This means more money inoroased
population and augmented pros-
perity The Commercial club is
now on a good basis. Tue re-election
of Riggins means a continu-
ance of pushing energetio aggres
sive work. lie is young ambitious
3nd full of ideas the right man in
the right place. Tho Cotton Palace
will be a big thing and if we all
put our shoulders to the wheel we
will have it."
Sam Sauger (The Cotton Palace
would be a good thing if carried
out on the right basis. It would
have to be a big thing so as to at-
tract visitors from all over the
country. The Commercial club has
done excellent work and will do
bettor. Riggius has the knack of
commanding the attention of tho
people and of impressing his ideas.
I was glad to see him re-elected.
It was a merited endorsement. No
othor man would have done the
amount of work ho has and I feel
sure there will be no cessation of
his effortB."
W. W7. Seloy: "Everybody I
talked with seoms enthusiastic over
tho Cotton Palace. If they are as
enthusiastic about taking stock as
tlioy are in arguing tho merits of
the thing there will be no trouble
about getting it. The Commeroial
club has done lots of good work for
Waco and without the expenditure
of auy gteat amount of money. The
re-election of Riggins means that
tho same business prinoiplos will be
applied to the work of the club this
oar and 1 think we may look for
increased results."
J. T. Battle: "Tho club has
done tine work and the outlook is
bright for the new year. I was glad
to see Riggins re elected he fairly
earned tie endorsement. I might
critcise some of his methods 3s ho
would some of mine;but there is no
doubt of his baing a live progres-
sive man and a good worker for the
town"
Dr. D R Wallace: "I think
the Cotton Pjlace will be an excel-
lent thing for the town if tho peo-
ple will take hold and build it. It
would attract many people here who
have never seen Waco and give us
a good opportunity to shoy them
what we have here."
E. Rotan: "The Commercial
cluv) has done good work and with-
out going into debt a all its prede-
cessors did. Mr. Riggins man-
aged matters on a business basis
and I W3S glad to ste him re-elected.
There is no doubt of the fact that
united effort will accomplish giod
results for a town and I think the
inil lence of the Commercial club
will be very apparent in the busi-
ness of Waco this year."
