wide field for instruction in the
art of breeding: The sound
constitution and robusthealth of

that their roving habits tend to
preserve their health. Ranging
over lulls and valleys in the
pure air is a .healthy recreation
that would create strong limbs
good mind and a vigorous con-
stitution. It is these roving
habits connected with the law
of strength by which the most
powerful stallions control the
brood mares that has created in
the pony good locomotive pow-

spring. Wecan take advantage
of thcie examples that tend to
promote the health of the wild
race and prepare the tame horse
for breeding by daily exercise
similar to that enjoyed by- the
wild pony in their daily rambles.
Disease is hereditary and
flows down in the blood as regu-
larly as water flows to the ocean.
A diseased stallion will inocu-
late multitudes with their de-
fects in the course of reproduc-
tion. They threaten to inun-
date the domestic family with
their cripples. They have al-
ready diminished the value of
the hardy pioneer by entailing
upon the present generation ten-
der feet weak legs thick winds
coarse porous bones and soft
spongy flesh. Itis alarming to
contemplate the diseases that a
few diseased stallions will scatter
oer tlie land. We must regen-
erate the present race of crip-
ples by breeding from sound
progenitors. It will be found
by tracing tlie pedigrees of some
of ourmost distinguished horses
that disease has been nearly
tooted out of the family so they
could nothavejnherited any se--rious
