stale election in Illinois this year
but the county election for judges
and other officials in Cook county
is of interest owing to the fight
that has been made on Judge Gary
who presided at the triaf of the
anarchists and is a candidate for
ro-election. Tho working class
element especially has manifested
strong anti-Gary proclivities and
the opposition to his re-election has
been aided directly and indirectly
by Gov. Altgold aud his following.
Although indorsed by tho bar asso
ciation the Democrats docliuod to
put themselves on record once more
as favoring a non-partisan judiciary
by indorsing Gary and he is conse-
quently a Htraightoul Republican
nominee. The intorest manifested
in the light outsido of Chicago is
evidenced in tho fact that the "Now
York Proas aud the Niv York Sun
respectively Republican and Demo-
cratic papers have editorially de-
clared tint Judge Gary should bo
regarded as a national candidate.
