Mr Geo. W. Tiuett Secretary Waco Texas.
Dear Sir: I regret to say 1 find
now I will not be able to assist you
in paying tho debt on Baylor Uni-
versity for the state has filed suits
for the railroad lands in tbis section
of the state not simply for sidings
and switches but socking to annul tho
grant as boing void on technical er-
rors and that no legislature power
can resurrect those void oertifisates or
validate their location and should
tho state succeed in recovering these
lands as legal minds seem to think I
will loose about twenty thousand dol-
lars worth of this droperty the ac-
cumulations of a life time with bare-
ly property sufficient left to pay homo
debts and a largo number of our best
citizens will bo thorcby bankrupted;
we all bought these lands after tboy
were patented by tho stato and after
Governor Hogg then attorney gen-
eral filed in tho general land office his
official opinion that the titles were
valid; at any rate you can seo clearly
with this cloud over our titles wo can
sell nothing. Hoping you success in
liquidating tho debt of tho university
and with the assurance I would aid
you liberally if possible. I am.
Very truly yours
W. J. Jones .
