someone stole his wallet from
his car on Thursday while he
was airing up his tires.
He said someone entered the
car at a Valero gas station and
took a bag containing the wallet.
Police responded at 5:30 p.m.,
but no arrests were made.
Intersection of North Lo-
cust Street and Coronado
Drive — Police found a “mari-
juana cigar” on the floorboard of
a vehicle Thursday after pulling
the driver over for speeding, a
police report said.
The report, however, did not
specify whether the officer cited
the driver for speeding, posses-
sion of marijuana or both. No
arrests were made.
2400 block of Lillian
Miller Parkway — An employ-
ee at The Exchange Gold Store
said a man switched a real gold
necklace with an identical fake
one during a transaction Thurs-
day evening.
He said the real necklace was
worth about $800. No arrest
were made.
The 60-year-old woman
who was fatally struck by an 18-
wheeler early Wednesday morn-
ing has been identified as Shawn
Massey.
The Tarrant County Medical
Examiner’s office has yet to re-
lease her city of residence.
Investigators said Massey at-
tempted to walk across the
northbound lanes near the Dal-
las Drive exit about 1:24 a.m.
She died from the impact of the
18-wheeler, which was carrying
produce, police said.
The northbound lanes had
been shut down at South Loop
288 for about five hours while
police investigated the scene.
The lanes were re-opened about
6:30 a.m.
The reason she tried to cross
the interstate is still unclear,
Cose said.

AUSTIN - The Texas un-
employment rate fell for the fifth
straight month, dropping to 4
percent in September despite
jobs that were washed away by
Hurricane Harvey, the Texas
Workforce Commission report-
ed Friday.
September’s unemployment
rate was a drop from the 4.2 per-
cent recorded in August. The
national rate for September was
4.2 percent.
Amarillo had the lowest un-
employment rate in Texas last
month at 2.7 percent, followed
by Midland at 2.8 percent. The
highest rate was in the Beau-
mont-Port Arthur area at 8.1
percent. Harvey brought wide-
spread flooding to the area after
first making landfall Aug. 25
along the Texas Gulf Coast.
“Hurricane Harvey impacted
overall job numbers in Septem-
ber, but the dynamic Texas econ-
omy has created jobs in 10 of 11
industries over the year,” com-
mission Chairman Andres Al-
cantar said.
About 7,300 jobs were lost
statewide in September, largely
due to Harvey, but those losses
were more than offset by posi-
tions gained.
The financial industry added
about 5,000 jobs while profes-
sional and business services
added nearly 6,000. Those
gains along with ones in other
sectors offset the more than
21,000 jobs lost by the leisure
and hospitality industry alone.
“Texas’ economic growth is
boosted by the resilience of our
employers who have added
230,300 private-sector jobs
over the past year,” Commission-
er Ruth R. Hughs said.
Other reports
2800 block of South In-
terstate 35E — A call about a
reckless driver led to two peo-
ple’s arrest Thursday night on
drug and alcohol charges, ac-
cording to a police report.
Police first received a report
of a potentially intoxicated per-
son driving a white Chevrolet
Malibu at On The Border Mex-
ican Grill & Cantina. The caller
said the driver almost hit her ve-
hicle.
