Free redbud trees given
in Arbor Day Campaign
Ten free American redbud trees will be given to each person who joins
Hpnor Roll
given to each person
the National Arbor Day Foundation during February, 2004.
The free trees are part of the nonprofit Foundation’s Trees for America
Campaign. Redbuds have clusters of rosy pink flowers in spring and dark
green summer leaves turning to yellow in the fall.
The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting
between March 1 and May 31, with enclosed planting instructions. The
six to 12 inch trees are-guaranteed to grow, or they will be replaced free
of charge
To become a member of the Foundation and receive the free trees,
send a $10 contribution to Ten Free Redbud Trees, National Arbor Day
Foundation, 100 Arbor Ava Nebraska City, NE 68410, by Feb. 29.

Cedrick Allen Johnson has been named to the President's List at
University of North Texas in Denton. Cedrick has achieved a perfect
grade point average for the 2003 Fall semester, qualifying him for the
Uist.
Cedrick is the son of Vera and Michael Johnson of Sinton.
Meagan May Martinez, a senior elementary education major at Texas
A&M University Corpus Chirsti, has been named tp the Fall 2003 Dean’s
List.

Ninety-five wild horses and bur-
ros, symbolic of the historic
American west are in need of good
homes.
The Wild Horse and Burro
adoption event will be held in
Robstown at the Nueces County
Memorial Agriculture, Jan. 30 and
31 hosted by the Bureau of Land
Management.
The event features 30 wean-
lings (young horses about six
months old), 30 mares, 20 studs
and burros (five jennies and 10
jacks.
Preview of the animals begins
Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., then
again Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
and Saturday from 8 a.m. until
noon.
A competitive bid will be held
Friday at 10 a.m. Following the ini-
tial bid, walk-up adopts will be held
throughout the weekend until noon
Saturday. Minimum adoption fee is
$125, per animal
. Admission is-free and specta-
tors and adopters are encouraged
to stop in early.
To qualify bidders must be at
least 18 with no record of animal
abuse. All animals must be picked
up by Saturday noon in an
approved stock trailer. Applications
to adopt are accepted on site.

Friday night, Kennedy Moody buys a ticket at the

late cakes that won them blue ribbons and were on
display in the homemaking building. Will’s was a red
velvet and Reagan’s was a chocolate layer cake.
