vestou were onlv 22 bides On the 10th
October 1819 52 bales and 12 half bales
were cleared at Galveston for Balti I
more On the 1st of Mav 1810 the
cotton crop of the preceding earwfs
estimated at 30000 bales but the receipts
at Galveston were meager 29 bales for
the week ending Apiil 11 and 10 for the
week ending April 22 for example The
crop increased rapidly but no records
wore kept of the amount May 9 1S40 i
ar eastern Texas merchant agreed to
ship G000 bales cotton oat ot the next
ciop and receive English Loods in pay-
ment In 1874 the amount of cotton
shipped to foreign ports was 5134ales J
coastwise 9212 block 011 hand Septem-
ber 1 32 bales
The receipts of cotton at Galveston
from September 1 1817 to Aprill 22
