A Hlghvraj Robbery
On Feb 21S92 about 4 oclock
in tho afternoon Mr D S OLery
by trado a stone cutter while on
his way from San Saba to Mr
John Gays on Rough Creek was
held up about three miles from
town by a lone robber Whether
tho robber demanded his money
first or at ouce began firing we
aro uuablo to say But OLery
was shot through tho right thigh
also just above the right oye the
ball passing under tho skin above
tho right tomplo the wounds are
painful but not fatal By theso
wounds OLory was made partial-
ly unconscious aud while in this
condition ho was robbed of about
17 After OLery recovered ho
mounted his horso and rodo on to
Jno Gays a distance of 7 or 9
miles OLery had been in town
tho greater part of the day and had
been drinking heavily He might
justly bo said to have been drunk
but of sufficient strength to ride a
horse On Wednesday tho 3rd inst
our officers were aprised of the
fact and immediately began inves-
tigations Sheriff Hudson having
learned of some circumstantial ev-
idence which seemed to implicate
Dee Graves proceeded to arrest
him Graves came to town Thurs-
day and was arrested and placed
under a bond of 1000 for trial
Saturday Fob 0
The bond was at once given The
trial camo up Saturday OLery
was put ou tho stand and Dee
Graves Will Carroll and two oth-
er boys about the same size etc
aero brought into court and ar-
ranged before OLery for identi-
fication OLery at once pointed
out Will Carroll ns tho man who
had shot and robbed him But it
was no trouble for Carroll to
prove that he was in town all tho
afternoon of the 2nd as ho was in
the imploy of Browns Livery Sta-
ble
Therefore Carroll was released
and Dea Graves was held over un-
der a 1200 bond to nwait tho ac-
tion of the grand jury The bond
was promptly given

of our readers by publishing our

Wo regret that a poacenblo citizen

whoever ho is be brought to a fair
nnd impartial trial nud justice
meeted out to him as his crime de
