Melvin Belli, Joe Tonahill, Phil Burleson and Sam Brody spoke for Ruby; Henry Wade, Dallas County District Attorney, was the prosecutor, assisted by Jim Bowie, Bill Alexander and Frank Watts. The presiding judge was Judge Joe B. Brown.

Prospective jurors examined: Mrs. Mildred McCollum, Steve Mueck, Mrs. Maria Springgob, George W. Roberts Jr., A. E. Parrott, Lee Oscar Elder, A. C. Phillips, A. B. Garza, M. C. David, Robert J. McCrary, Harry E. Smith, H. L. Eckert and R. S. McKeever.

Mildred McCollum was selected to the jury.
