signed the management of the paper
to his partner, who, being a new
hand in the business, would ask the
readers to excuse all bluudera they
may discover In this Issue.
On last Monday our streets were
filled more than usually by citizen!
from the country- Among them we
noticed Charles A. Kessler and R.
Wolters, ot Schulenburg, F. Tbul-
meyer, a merchant residing near
Black Jack, aud V. Matqjowsky
p. m., Neehaultz.
Last Saturday Thornton’s Museum
and managerie garb <wo perform-
ances in oar town. The performance
was said to be very good aud large
audiences greeted the circus. If*
were not present ourselves but our
friends say that*it was as good as
they could have expected or looked
for.
Yesterday we called at the store of
our old friends, Day A Chandler,
and upon eur entering into their
establishment, we were surprised to
we such large stock of the very best
jewelry, as they now have, which
tlioy sell at bottom prices. If you
don’t believe us, go and see for your-
selves.
Our friend Logan is repairing the
house next to his tailor shop aud hav-
ing it fitted up for a residence. He
will have It ready to be oooupied in a
tew days and will theu move hie
family iu there. When this is doue
lie will afrall times be found at his
post ready to fit you out in a new
suit of clothes or repair your old
ones.

Hon. O. M. Hollingsworth. This
journal is one which will be a very
valuable accession to our State liter-
ature end is deserving of the support
of every friend of education In the

magaxine should be found lu every
household.

recemmsnded to us as a first class
shoemaker. Having seeu some of the
boots and shoes made by him, we
heartily endorse the recommenda-
tion. As onr city needed a first-
class shoemaker, thoiefore Mr. 8. is
more then welcome amoug ns. His
shop Is on the west aide of the public
square, fronting the mayor’s office.
Last week the apportionment of
the aohool fond to the different school
communities was made. There are
iu onr couuty eighty-one organized
school communities, white ; thirty,
black, aud five on the lines of the
couuty, making in all one huudred
and sixteen communities. The State
fund gave the aura'of three dollars to
each pupil aud the county fund two
dollars and fifty cents, in all five dol-
lars and fifty cents per pupil. This
showing reflects great credit upon
the managers of our couuty school
fuud.
