criminals in tho Jail had to turn away

Warren that he could depend upon
him using all his influence In helping

Johnson fell aud received severe In
juries It seems tho elevator had been
out of fix a wedge having slipped out
of a slot which held a cogwheel that
worked the main shaft lu raising and
lowering tho platform and workmen
had been employed tu repair It but
tho wedgo was not securely put In and
this was why tho accident occurred
Johuson took hold of the hearse and
as he drew It ou the platform tho ele-
vator slipped about halfwa down
whero It caught lho hearse turned
over and as It fell Johnsou was
knocked off and fell to tho floor be-
low Mr Kpcuco Oraud had Johuson
put In n carriage aud sent to his home

ciau was summoned and on examina-
tion it was louud that no bones were
broken but he had received severe
injuries about the hips nnd his right
