as chairman ot the bl metnllle execu-
tive committee of Tcxns und nlso
would subject me to tho charge of using
my position and tho sliver Issue to
get ofllce I therefore announce that
I will positively not be a candidate for
congress
I regard tne success oc mo silver
cause In Texas at this time ns para-
mount to personal ambition and will
do nothing which might have a ten-
dency to hinder or embarrass my ef-
forts for success In this move
I feel deeply Interest d In having
the Democracy of Texan declare In its
next platform for M met allium In un
eqtilvil terms nnd send a delegation
to the national convention pledged to
the support of the free and unlimited
coinage of silver at the ratio of 18 to
I and I shall give my best efforts to
the success ot this cause In the coming
campaign
It Is bnrdlv neeepsary for mo to assui
my friends that I feel a deep Interest In
having our district represented In the
next congress by a strong and positive
friend of sliver and I thfiefore urge
that the friends of bl rnetalltsm shall
see that the Democratic nominee for
the Seventh and all other districts In
Texas is none other than a sound free
coinage advocate
If our cause is to ultimately succeed
we must put men In congress unon
whom wo can rely to vote right Ton
cannot afford to experiment with new
converts or men of doubtful opinions
or a compromtslnir character or posi-
tion on this question
Place none on guard but true men
who can and will pronounce the Phlb
bolerh c f our caui e In no uncertain
accent Very truly
