change his < ptina JuH what this Infor-

It led to thA arrest of the men whom
he now has In custody charged with tho
crime
Captain McDonald of the Texas ran-

In custody 4wo prisoners One of them

tioned la thA dlsptrJniB fjom Hanger
two daj ago as having ben arrested

came from tho Indian Territory and
tclcgiams have been sent to the point
from which ho aays ho halls to ascer-

He Is held hero tnoantlme and will be
kept In tho Tarrant couuty Jail until
tho telegrams referied to are answered
and such other lnformitlon Is obtained
as will satisfy the officers be > ond a
doubt that ho Is not Implicated in the

ciinstano Attending his arrest was
the fact that he had boon seen with tho
man named HArmond who v as finally
overtaken after a long chase by Hoots
and Hunch tho officers who went after
lilm from Hanger
What probably fastened suspicion on
Mr DArmond la < ho fact that ha was
tisveling so fast
According to DArmond s aUtement
ha was on tho road from Sprlngtuwn
to Weatherford on the day of the rob-
bery traveling towards his home at
Ealrd He msl the boy Llndsey on tns
way by ttcoldnt according to the
story told by tho Istter after his arrest
at Hanger and were together for only
a short time but long enough to fasten
suspicion upon them both DAlmond

night of tho robbery He was on his
way from Weatherford lo Halrd when
the boy was arrested at Jlalrd a short
tlmo after tho two had separated Ow-
ing to the boys confusion and stam-
mering way of telling things the offi-
cers concluded that both he and his
fellow traveler must have had some-
thing to do with the robbery Accord-
ingly two officers were sent after
DArmond whle Wndiey was held on
general principles IArmond app ared
to be waking very good time and as
he had quite a good start of them the
result of the pursuit became uncertain
enough to b highly interesting to
them Later they learned that DAr
mond had stopped off at Oordon and
traded a browa hone for a aorrell
Then the chase became exciting and
wl n DArmond was finally overhauled
In Eastland county he would have a
hard time convlnclrg anyone that he
was not wanted badly by his pursuers
for tn addition to his rapid gait and his
horse trade be answered the Indefinite
description gtrn of ons of the train
robbers fairly well having light
brown mustache and being a medium
alzed man welgbrg about 350 pounds
and having on dark colored clothes
But these circumstances were not
deemed euHcItDt to warrant his being
held after his arrival her last night
and he was accordingly released after
a pretty thorough Inootry Into the clr
cumstaacs of 111 arrest by the oilers
here Tho readiness with which this
conclusion was reached was no doibt
due to a feeling of confidence on th
part of EhtriK holers and his men that
tber already had the right tarn a feel-
ing which Is evidently shared by Cap-
tain MoDonald ftrr being taken Into

Today this statement wo found to

the report that 4io said ho vvaa In tho

Mr call also presented a resolution
declaring that the further prosecution
of the war bvtween China and Jpuu
will not b advantageous to the teace
of civilisation and thtt the Interests
of tho world require that all govern-
ments shall unite in negotiating with
Japan and China for the termination
ot the war Without dlscuslon th
resolution was referred to the commit-
tee on foreign relations
Mr Allen Pop of Nebraska called
up his resolution Intended to expunge
a portion of the Congressional It word
and to mend a resolution Introduced Isat
July to the attorney general The lat-
ter resolution call I for Information
concerning th Hullman strike This
resolution had passd bntvvas recon-
sidered on motion or Mr 1ugh of Ala-
bama
Mt Allen bitterly assalhl this no
tlon and also attacked the attorney
general to whom he attributed th
action of the Alabama semttor Mr
Allen also criticise 1 the action of the
attorney during the alrlke
Mr Hugh Dem of Alabama vigor-
ously defended the attitude taken hy
Mr Olney and pointed out what he re-
garded woull be the Impropriety of
demanding the Information asked for
in tho resolution H declared that the
poiltion of the senator from Nebraska
wan unreasonable and unt nahl
At 3 oclock the whol matltr went
over and the senate on motion ot Mr
Morgan lock up tho Nicaragua cana
bill The bill was read at length
Mr Morgan began his remarks hy
making a general statement of the na-
tional and International aspect of the
subject uron which the stnate and
Muse blllK agree Careful calcutathns
he ins stM shone that the cinal coult
be constructed at a exist that woutd
ileld a remunerative profit and that
it was a necessary imi rovement thai
It wruld he of tho greatest Importance
to the United Mates that It could be
opeiated and there was nothing to
lender Importable the concessions
mado by the Central American govern-
ment to the citizens of the United
Htates Finishing this general state-
ment the senator devoted some tlmo
to lh discussion of the characteristics
of the country through which It Is pro
po d to build tho canal anl Its advan-
tageous route as compared with that nf
tho Panama canal route and also that
no such Improvement could be lven to
commerce as the construction ot this
necessary complement to the Hues
tan a I The route Is feasible the englnf
eerlng work easy and there will btr jxa
extraordinary work require 1 in any-
place on the whole route
Mr Morgan quoted from ti report
of Chief Hnglneer Menocal who esti-
mated that tho canal coull bo built
for Stfoooooo and said that he thought
that the expenditure of the 4 000 000
already spent had demonstrated that
tl e actual c > at would be even lower
lhan that estimated by Mr Menocal
The te house of congreei practically
agreed that the coat of the canal would
be about S70000000 and the guarl
and restrictions tu be thrown around
the expenditures were matter of easy1
adjustment Th manner of raising
the money was a iiinstton ot expedien-
cy that shoull not bo allowed to nffect
lis construction He argued In support
of tbe proposition that contemplated
government ownership in the cans
Hngland owned stock In th Hues canal
and why should not the United Ktstes
own stock In the Nicaragua canalr
Government ownership was the only
means by which the govern me st could
exert Its Influence over ths canal for
the protection of Its citizens except
by force
The canal must be built under the
fostering rare ot some government
We must act now or abandon th canal
to its fate To abandon It now was
responsibility he ws unwilling to as-
sume and a declination the people
would not forget
At th conclusion of Mr Morgans
speech Mr Mitchell of Oregon briefly
expressed hi hearty approval of the
scheme to build the canal and said he
thought there was no great dlfisrencs
among th psopt regarding th pro-
priety of the work of ons true tlon
