We have heard that Uncle Ransey GRAVES, a short time ago, bought a pair of fencenippers
and carried home with him. If any fence-cutting is done in his neighborhood
we will know who to charge it to.
.A young man named Nathan BLACKWELL, living in the western part of the county, was
thrown from his horse and killed on Monday last. He was returning home from school.
The Democrat returns many thanks to Mrs. A.E. MATHEWS of Allen, for the beautiful
and exquisite boquet presented by her generous hand.
The name of Jesse COFFEE ought to be among the candidates for county offices. He
is an old and solid citizen of the county, and is entitled to a good county office
for a few years.
Mr. I.N. FOSTER, of Melissa, gave the Democrat a call Tuesday last, and reports
things moving along nicely in that part of the county.
Raffle
At ARLINGER and Co.'s raffle Tuesday night, $100 in clothing was put up.
Bill MACK, Beecher CAMERON, Joe WADDILL and Bob WOODS were the lucky parties. $1
for a $25 suit of clothes is pretty cheap.
Maj. J.A. BUCK moves around among the people with perfect ease and takes great
pride in fine horses. He is a pleasant man, but the secret of his grace is he
handles nothing but the best stock. If you had such stock, you would be pleasant.
Last Sunday, Judge GOODNER received by express, from unknown friends, a copy of
