A HOLD BOOZE SELLER
LANDS IN THE JAIL.
Did a Rushing Business Until the
Officers Got Wise.
Ethie Davis who declared to the
officers after his arrest that he was
a "booze seller from Oklahoma'
was placed In the county jail Sunday
on a number of complaints charging
violations of the local option law.
As a 32 caliber Colt's revolver was
also found secretcd in his clothing
he will also be called upon to an-
swer a charge of unlawfully carry-
ing arms.
Davis is one of the boldest boot-
leggers who has appeared here in
some time. He showed up at a wag-
on yard Saturday night with a suit
case filled with pint bottles of whis-
key. It is stated that he sold the
goods openly to any one who hap-
pened to be afflicted with a thirst.
Some of the purchasers warned the
peddler that he was liable to ran
•ifoul of the law.
"What difference does it make to
you whether or not I get caught"
he is declared to have said "just so
you get the goods."
He resumed his operation Sunday
morning and when he got a tip that
the sheriff was on his trail he de-
parted for the east over the Trinity
and Brazos Valleyt City Marshal
Shippey telephoned the sheriff at
Corsicana to meet the train and
make the arrest. The train was met
by the oficers and from the con-
ductor they learned that Davis got
off at Ray. This information was
telephoned the city marshal who no-
tified the sherif* and he at
once left for Ray in his automobile.
Davis was soon found and placea
under arrest. He was brought to
Waxahachie and locked up. The suit
case which he was carrying con-
tained fourteen pints of whiskey. A
pistol was also found tucked snug-
ly away under his vest.
