Obituaries
Linda Schneider
Linda Schneider, 89, of West
Sinton died Monday, May 10, 2004.
Born Oct. 5, 1914 ,in Seguin,
Guadalupe County, she and her hus-
band were involved in farming and
ranching in South Texas for many
years. She was an active member of
Trinity Lutheran Church in West
Sinton. She was preceded in death by
her parents, Otto and Dorothea
Winsauer and her husband of 58
years, Martin Schneider.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m.
Thursday May 13, at the Ritchea
Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Friday,
May 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church
in West Sinton with Rev. Jim Sturgis
officiating. Burial will be in the
Sinton Cemetery with her grandsons,
Kevin Kieschnick, Christopher
Freeman, Andrew Freeman, Brian
Schneider, Berin Schneider, John
Max Schneider and Bennett
Schneider as pallbearers.
Mrs. Schneider is survived by her
daughters, Gloria (Edgar Ray)
Kieschnick of Corpus Christi; Diana
(William) Freeman of Houston; her
sons, Dr. Martin L. Schneider
(Kathryn) of Amarillo and Dr.
Dennis Ray Schneider of Round Rock;
11 grandchildren, two great-grand-
children; her sister, Ella Mae Krueger
of Seguin; a sister-in-law, Emma
Schneider of Sinton, brother-in-law
Edwin and Lynnette Schneider of
Mathis, sisters-in-law, Erna Winsauer
of Seguin and Ida Winsauer of
Mathis.

DeLeon Jr
Lucio Fonseca DeLeon Jr., 56,
died Thursday, May 6, 2004, in a
Kerrville hospital after a long illness.
He was born in Mathis and had
been a lifelong resident of the
Mathis-Sinton area where he was a
self-employed welder. He was a vet-
eran of the the U. S. Air Force.
A rosary was recited Sunday at
the Ritchea Gonzales Funeral Chapel
and funeral mass was celebrated at 9
Ja.m. May 10, at Our Lady of
Guadalupe Catholic Church with
Father Peter Antony as celebrant.
Interment was in Eternal Rest
Cemetery in Sinton.

Mr. DeLeon is survived by his son,
Anthony DeLeon of Sinton; his for-
mer wife, Elida Deleon of Sinton;
four brothers, Rodolfo DeLeon and
Reynaldo DeLeon of Sinton, Pablo
DeLeon of West Sinton and Robert
DeLeon of Edroy; six sisters, Rosa
Torres of Mathis, Corpus Christi and
Guadalupe Martinez of Mathis.
Jesus T. Chavez
Jesus T. Chavez, 64, died Saturday
May 8, 2004, in a Corpus Christi hos-
pital after a sudden illness.
Born in Taft, he had been a resi-
dent of the Odem/Sinton area most
of his life where he was a truck dri-
ver. His parents Jose P. and Consuelo
Chavez and a brother, E. T. Chavez,
preceded him in death.
A rosary was recited May 11, at
Ritchea Gonzales Funeral Home
Chapel and funeral mass was cele-
brated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May
12, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church
with Father Efren Nano as celebrant.
Interment was in Eternal Rest
Cemetery in Sinton.
Mr. Chavez is survived by one
brother, Joe (Katy) T. Chavez of
Sinton; four sisters, Pat C. Gonzales
of Sinton, Porfiria Elizondo and
Jesusa (Anselmo) Acosta of Taft and
Salva Chapa of Baytown and many
nieces and nephews.
James Dempsey
Masonic funeral rites will be held
for James Dempsey Thursday, May
13, 2004 in Laredo, with interment
at a later date in New York.
Dempsey, a founder of HALO
Flight, was the director of the local
ems organization SAVES during the
1980s. He was the recipient of two
purple Hearts, and a Silver Star.
An active Mason, he also
belonged to the 69th Division of the
Irish Brigade and the 6th Texas
Division. Dempsey is survived by his
daughter, Rachyll Dempsey, his part-
ner, Hillary McAllister, his siblings
and many nieces and nephews. The
family requests that, in lieu of flow-
ers, memorial donations be directed
to the Alzafar Shrine Center,
Shriner's Hospital P. O. Box 813,
Laredo, TX 78042. There is a guest

Summer Reading Program
begins in Odem in June
Color Your World...ReadlCome check out the Odem Public
Library this summer, When you read a book you can go anywherer.
Let Mr. Kppy be your guide. You don’t need to register, pay fees or
even come to every session, just show up at the library and have
some fun.
In Odem there will be two sessions each Wednesay beginning the
first week in June. Pre school children are welcome from 3:30 to 4:30
p.m. and elementary kids are invited to come in from 2 to 3 p.m.

St. Mary's Graduate
Patricia Mejia received a masters degree in polit-
ical science from St. Mary's University in San
Antonio Friday, May 8 at Freeman Coliseum.
Patricia, a graduate of Corpus Christi Academy,
is the daughter of Leonard Mejia of Odem.
Annual Go Texan BBQ June 12
San Patricio Area Go Texan will hold their 2nd annual BBQ Cookoff
Saturday, June 12 at the Rob and Bessie Welder Park during the Sinton
Chamber of Commerce Thunder in the Park Festival.
The cook-off will include brisket, chicken and ribs categories.
Jackpot Contest will include fajitas, chili and beans. Other events
scheduled are the horseshoe and washer contests.
