Notes

Photograph of 915 N. Sycamore taken from the road. Photo was taken for the Historic Resources Survey of Palestine, Texas 1989-1991. Palestine contains almost 200 modified L-plan houses, many of which are in the neighborhood north of the central business district. This property is one such example and is noteworthy because it is virtually unaltered and retains its integrity to a high degree. The turned porch supports and the shingled siding in the gables are indicative of the Queen Anne style, which was locally popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The earliest known owner of this house was G.A. Everett, co-owner of the Everett & Meyer Mule Barn, who lived here as early as 1926. By 1935 the house was occupied by renters Jeffrey W. and Margaret J. Kimbrough. During the early 1940s renters Tarlton B. Gober and his wife Ola lived here; Mr. Gober was a clerk at Lane’s Slipper Shop. About 1977 the house was converted into a duplex.
