Each year several classes from
graduations past return to the
forty acres to reunite with friends
and former peers after ten twenty
even forty years or more. This
year's congregating classes are
from 1966 1976 1981 1986 and
1996.
The reunions are part of the
annual Homecoming festivities
and will include a meal called The
Golden Lariat Society Dinner and
a time for socializing. The dinner
will be held on Sat. Oct. 28 at 6 p.m.
in Moody Center. Bill Thorn a fel-
low alumnus and president emer-
itus of Dallas Baptist University
will be the guest speaker. Tickets
for the event are $14. Each class
will also pose for a group photo
at the time of the dinner and will
have the option of ordering a copy
for $io.After the meal the class
members are invited to attend the
football game and sit with their
fellow graduates.
There are separate invitations
posted for each class under the title
"Reunions" on the Homecoming
section of the website. They each
include some information about
the Homecoming events as well as
additional questions and details
unique to each class. There is also a
bio form posted on the site. Those
who fill out the form and return it
will become part of the Reunion
Memory Book for Homecoming
2006.
The class of 1966 is encouraged
to bring photos scrapbooks and
other personal items from the era
to Hunter Hall on Friday evening
for an informal affair. The event
which will be held at 7 p.m. is
designed to allow class members to
meet greet and get reacquainted
with one another. The class of '66
is a host class so all alumni from
the 1960s are invited to take part
in the activities and share in the
memories.
The planning committee for
the class of 1976 posted a quiz
on the university website so that
returning graduates can test their
knowledge concerning the "rather
unorthodox events" that occurred
during their college years. One
question from the unofficial exam
reads as follows: True or False an
HSU custodian hit quite a note
when he rolled the $40000 con-
cert grand piano off the stage in
the Woodward Dellis Recital Hall
droppingjt 4 feet to the concrete
floor below where its legs smashed
through the sounding board.
The posting for the class of
'86 asks alumni readers if they
remember typing term papers
prior to the digital age when type
writers sat atop desks rather than
computers.
The graduating class that tossed
their caps in the air almost 20 years
prior to today is also expected to
remember certain antics charac-
teristic of the cowboy band such
as letting mice loose or rolling
marbles down the aisles during
chapel.
Alumni who are unable to attend
the Homecoming celebration and
share in the memories face to face
is still invited to contribute a page
in the reunion book and purchase
a copy for $8.
