Chanters finish
five-day tour of
West Texas

The Chanters choir re-
turned Sunday March 7
from a five day tour of
West Texas. The tour con-
cluded with a concert Sun-
day evening at the Episco-
pal Church of the Heav-
enly Rest.
The choir tour consisted
of concerts in Vernon
Odessa Andrews and Mid-
land. In the latter the
performance was a joint
Sunday morning church
service with Spirit Wind
an auditioned youth choir
from various churches in
the conference.
The Chanters choir cut
short its tour season this
spring because on May 9
Dr. Dawn Willis as well as
Chanters alumni and
friends will be represent-
ing McMurry in New York
with a performance of
Mozart's "Solemn Ves-
pers" at the famed
Carnegie Hall.
Chi at the organization's
convention in the Marriott
Hotel in New Orleans
March 18-20.
The McMurry history
professor has headed the
national honor society for
the past 12 years.
He was accompanied to
the gathering by Dr. Pug
Swim coach one of first
recipients of coaching award
Bev Ball the McMurry
Swim coach for next sea-
son has been honored by
being one of the first re-
cipients of the Chuck
Moser Coach of the Year
Award.
Ball who was a coach for
Abilene Independant
School District for 48
years received the award
Friday March 5 along
with Art Biles a coach
from Stephenville. The

Ball will begin coaching
McMurry's new swim team
next year and has been
coaching the swim teams
at both Abilene High and
Cooper for the entire time
that either school has had
a swim team save one semester.

Department of Music pre-
sented an evening of per-
formances featuring stu-
dent music majors on
March 9 in the Amy
Graves Ryan Recital Hall.
Robert Beeks started the
evening with a wonderful
rendition of the Aria
"Madamina! II catalogo e
questo" from the opera
"Don Giovanni" by W.A.
Mozart.. It was followed
by the charming duet
"Sous le dome epais" from
"Lakme" performed by
Holly Poole and Susan
May.
Roger Hiatt II enter-
tained the audience with
Adagio for Horn and Piano
by G.B. Grasiolo. Rachel
Conn graced those in at-
tendance with "Quando
men" by Giacomo Puccini.
Aaron Noland's clarinet
performance of "Five
Bagatelles" by Gerald Finzi
was a delight to the ear.
Kris Ridgley gave an in-
spiring performance of
"Vaghissima sembianze"
by Stephano Donaudy. At
the conclusion of the
evening Rob Alley's trum-
pet piece "Believe Me If

Activities being
planned for
religious week

Easter April 4 is just
around the corner and
many related activities
will be taking place.
Reverend Jim Wingert
says that he "would like to
encourage students to cel-
ebrate Holy Week and Eas-
ter." Holy Week is based on
the activities in Jerusalem
during the last week of
Jesus's life. Tuesday
morning of Holy Week
there will be Holy Com-
munion in the Chapel with
Dr. LeMasters. Thursday
morning there will be
Communion to celebrate
the Last Supper.
Easter is the day when
we celebrate Jesus's resur-
rection. The Tuesday af-
ter Holy Week there will
be a celebration of the
Resurrection.
