A group of students has begun a project which will bring a part of
McMurry's past to life again.
An auditorium located in the back of Old Main will be renovated and
brought back to its 1923 look. Unknown to most current students and faculty
the auditorium is an important part of McMurry's history. The school's
dedication ceremony was held on the stage Sept. 20 1923.
Events that also were held there included the funeral of the school's
founder J.W. Hunt various College Series operas Shakespearen plays
band and choir concerts and chapel. Aldersgate United Methodist Church
held its services there for a period of time.
Students Jennifer Finch and Christler Crews first became aware of the
auditorium's presence when they noticed the large bay windows found in the
back of Old Main. They were given a tour of the auditorium and then formed
a committee in McMurry Student Government to begin the restoration
process.
The committee members include Crews Finch Amy Harbaugh Kristina
Horn Brian Johnson Alecia Krivanek Beth Laney Neena McLain Bill
Mcfford Raymond Ochs Trey Pittman David Price Sunny Segrist Marga-
ret Stanton and Raymond Villeneuve.
According to Crews and Finch the biggest step is to find funding for the
restoration process. Possible sources as of now include foundations individ-
ual contributions and grants.
The plans for this enormous project already have been shown to Dr. Kim
