ROTARACT
Rotaract Club of Abilene has been
providing a number of services this
semester on both an intellectual level
and on a cultural level. During the
Travel Log scries sponsored by the
local Rotary Clubs Rotaract partici-
pated by ushering and selling tickets
at the Abilene Civic Center. There
will be another Travel Log presenta-
tion in April so keep your eye out and
don't miss another chance to escape
to a foreign land with Rotary!
In addition to Travel Log Rotaract
has provided a number of fantastic
programs at its meetings. With pres-
entations by Roland Rocourt from
Haiti MikcMolotfrom Johannesburg
South Africa andMicahBoswell from
Peru Rotaract has been able to pro-
vide good opportunities to expand our
knowledge and our general aware-
ness of world affairs on a fust hand
basis. This past week. Nana Owusu
shared some of his experiences and
facts about himself and abouthishome
country Ghana. We plan to continue
these quality programs recognizing
that busy students demand meetings
that arc worth their time.

Student Services Office will be spon-
soring the event. The title is "Pressure
Points." Club members and other
students will speak on topics related

McMurry will host the AbileneTri-
College Teacher Job Fair from 9 a.m.
- 5 pjn. on Thursday April 6.
"The fair's purpose is to connect
those looking for teaching positions
with school representatives. Not just
students from all tliree institutions of
higher learning but anyone in the area
looking for a teaching position in the
State of Texas." said Cindy Burleson
Director of Career Counseling for
McMurry.
Fifty school districts have commit-
ted to attend. Students may register

Our Jail House Rock dance was a
huge success. We hope that everyone
who came enjoyed themselves.

Plans arc almost complete for the
Student Awareness ScminaronTucs.
March 14. Several organizations arc
sponsoring speakers for the seminar
with the theme of "Pressure Points".
Special thanks go to James Hays for
organizing the event which is spon-
cording to Dianna Merry President of
A.P.O.
Another of A.P.O.'s upcoming
projects is Adopt-A-Highway. Mem-
bers of A.P.O. will pick up trash on
two miles of Oldham Lane. This is an
activity done four times a year Merry
said.
A.P.O. will also be helping out
March 29 at the Buffalo Gap Art
between March 1 and April 3 by call-
ing the placement office. For infor-
mation about a particular school dis-
trict's plans to attend or not call Cleta
Ramby at 691-6252.
Those wishing to attend must pre-
pare a resume and make several cop-
ies to give to the fair representatives.
The fair will have an unscheduled
format. No appointments with indi-
vidual school districts are necessary.

At the Section 40 Conference in
Portal cs our chapter was awarded an
H Roe Bartlc Award for Excellence
in Chapter Administration and Pro-
gram for 1987-88 as well as a con-
gratulatory certificate on our chap-
ter's Silver Anniversary from the
National Office. Chapter President
Dianna Merry was appointed to the
Section 41 Staff and the Region VII
Membership and Extcnstion Commit-
tee. The McMurry Chapter was con-
gratulated for reporting regularly.
A Silver Anniversary Banquet is
rapidly approaching and plans arc
being finalized. All chapter alumni
and several dignitaries arc invited.

The James Windford Hunt chapter
of Alpha Chi a national scholarship
society was organized in 1926. Eligi-
bility is based upon character and
scholarship. The upper tenth of the
junior and senior classes is elected to
membership each year. Its purpose is
to encourage sound scholarship and
devotion to the truth.
The McMurry chapter will be at-
tending National Convention April 5-
8 1989. Laura Wyatt Searcy was
elected to represent the chapter as
voting delegate.
