summer scholarship

Hutchison named church relations director
Mike Hutchison has been named
Director of Church Relations at
McMurry College.
Hutchison who graduated from
McMurry in 1987 will work with
United Methodist Churches in the
Northwest Texas and New Mexico
Conferences to make "McMurry
people facilities and expertise avail-
able to the two conferences" said
Johnnie Ray director of Institutional
Advancement and Alumni Relations.
"This is the first time McMurry has
had a full-time staff member exclu-
sively for church relations" Ray said.
"It is part of an on-going examination
of McMurry's relationship with the
Northwest Texas and New Mexico
Final summer play scheduled
The musical "Man of La Moncha"
will be the final production of the
McMurry summer dinner theater sea-
son. The play is scheduled Aug. 4-6 and
8-13 in the Amy Graves Ryan Fine
Arts Center.
Dinner-show tickets are $15 ($14
wecknights). Dessert-only and show
tickets are $8 ($7 wecknights). Group
prices are available. Dinner is served
at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 8.
"We're expecting really good busi-
ness for the lost show" said Charlie
Hukill assistant professor of theater.
Hukill's wife Betty who is technical
director for the Abilene Community
Theater will direct "Man of La Mon-
cha." Hukill will design the sets.
The first two productions of the
summer season "Pirates of Penzance"
and "Miss Firecraker Contest" were
"moderately successful" in terms of
to the new J.E. and L.E. Mabcc Dining Hall. Open house will be held
conferences and ho w we can improve
that relationship."
Hutchison previously worked as
Student and Church Relations Officer
with the Admissions and Develop-
ment offices at McMurry.

Hutchison is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Verl Hutchison of EI Paso. His grand-
father Col. Holland Hope is a United
Methodist minister. Hutchison has two
brothers David and Danny both
McMurry College graduates who are
now serving in the United States mili-
tary. Hutchison graduated from El Paso
Andrcss High School in 1983. While
at McMurry Hutchison was a senator
attendance" Hukill said. The two
shows together averaged about 100
persons per night.
Hukill said he believes the last
production will do better because it is
a musical with name recognition.

McMurry Student Judicial Board

Christian Outreach and the McMurry
Chanters.
Hutchison graduated from
McMuny with a bachelor of arts
degree in psychology with an empha-
sis on Christian education.
Hutchison also has served as youth
director at Floydada Fairmont UMC
in Abilene and First UMC in Hobbs.

Jimmy Blanton junior at McMurry
College has been named to receive a
scholarship for full-tuition for a sum-
mer internship to Georgetown Uni-
versity. He is presently attending a
seminar of the Institute on Compara-
tive Economics and Politics at Geor-
getown during the summer intern
program. His attendance will count
toward six credit hours at McMurry
for his degree in political science.
To attend this seminar students
must be selected by their schools'
dean and Political Science Depart-
ment chairperson. Through studying
the students' performances directly
related to Political Science and gener-
ally related to all other aspects of the
college one student is selected to
represent the school and is then rec-
ommended to the Institute.
Although McMurry has had three
students accepted to attend the semi-
nar from the past few years Blanton is
the first McMurry student to receive a
full scholarship for the summer ses-
sion. He is viewed with high regards
by Dr. Mike El-Attrache McMuny
College professor of Political Science
and chairperson for that department.
"Jimmy is very deserving of all that
he has received. He is one of the best

cently attended training courses at
Baylor University to become a certi-
fied aerobic instructor-trainer.
Parris was one of four persons from
this area to complete the 16 hours of
training sponsored by Aerobic Fitness-Texas

school and college teachers.

"The most important honor in my
opinion that Jimmy has received was
being given Honorable Mention as
the Outstanding Junior for the Politi-
cal Science Deparmcnt during the
Honors Convocation ceremony held
in April" El-Attrache said. Although
his credentials qualified him for the
actual award he was ineligible to
receive it because he is the son of a
McMurry College staff member.
Blanton dubbed as "A true intel-
lectual by excellence" by Dr. El-Attrache
is the son of Ms. Mary Blan-
ton secretary to the president of
McMurry College.

"Hot HotHot" accompany 14 others
in the program that will be distributed
to Texas physical education teachers.
The three instructors from Abilene
who attended the course will hold a
workshop at Hardin-Simmons Uni-
versity on Saturday Scpt.10 from
8:30 a.m. to 5:30 pjn. Advanced
Academic Training will be available
during the workshop.
