Dear Iklitoi.
When I fiist enteted McMuirv
I was a er frustialed and con-
fused person I didn't think that
I had a thing to offer Well. I
decided to enter a speech class 1
took it under Mis Hlair Tor the
fiist tune I developed a confi-
dence within myself She criti
ciod me yet she did it in a wa
that I knew it was good foi me I
found that she was couceincd
about each student She duln t
insist that we each be speech
minors but she showed us how
to use speech in the occupation
we chose
As a person Mis Hlair has a
deep desne foi hung She is an
inspiiation to the college and
has helped mold me and many
others into confident and re-
sponsible CltlOIIH
Last of all she not onh talks of
her Christian faith but most un
portant she lives it Fiom a stu-
dent who wants to sa 'I hanks

McMurry Student Foundu
tion Is however soliciting a
more original name which
might he more personal to
McMurry.
1 he Foundation was proposed
In Hill Stevens and David Dill
man of the Admissions Office
and the students will work
undei their direction It will
consist ot G-10 junior and senior
students who must maintain a
'JO average and have been at
McMurrv one entire semester
prev ious to their appointment
'I lie Foundation is looking
for students who can best
promote McMurry because
they themselves have been an
active and interested part of
it. The work areas involve
student recruitment ac-
tivities such as (1) college
nights (2) area day visits to
schools CI) church programs
which might he in accor-
dance with Christian Out-
reach (I) campus tours for
visitors (0) hosting visiting
students and (fl) w ork on Stu-
dent Weekend and Methodist
Youth Dny.
In the area of development
the foundation will help obtain
money for student scholarships
tluough both direct solicitation
and student fund raising ac-
tivities 'I hey will work closely
with Jack Holden and the De-
velopment Office
Public Relations work will
center around: (1) advert Is-'
lug schemes in conjunction
vv 1th the existing PR office. (2)
leprescntatlon and prog-
rams for local state and na-
tional oiganiiitlons in both
civ ic and professional groups
nnd (.1) representation for
McMurry as a church related
institution throughout all
phases of the United
Methodist Conference.
Other work areas could in
elude the Alumni Association
Indian Club and Departmental
presentations
While several students
have been involved in this
Spring's early efforts of the
Student Foundntion Stevens
says the organization hopes
to get into full swing by the
Fall Semester. Students In-
eluding David Wilcox Wayne
Robertson Linda Hender-
son Debbie Haker Jerry
Tochterman and Randy
White responded to a letter
from Dr. Kim to be a part of
the group.
Some of them attended a
Midwinter Youth Conference at
Glorietta New Mexico. Also
many participated in Fund Rais-
ing Efforts in area churches and
others have visited with groups
in the Abilene high schools
The volunteers now and in
the futuro will aim to "enligh-
ten prospective students to
both the good and bad as-
pects of an education nt
McMurry" according to Ste-
vens. He adds that he wants stu-
dents who feel they have gained
a lot from the school and will
thus be able to tell others what
McMurry gavo them.
