eloquent wisdom lest the cross of
Christ be emptied of its power
When I come to you brethren I
did not come proclaiming to you the
testimony of God in lofty words or
wisdom For I decided to know
nothing among you except Jesus
Christ and him crucified
Just ns in the days immediately
following the crucifixion nnd the
resurrection of Christ there nre far
too many of us who claim to follow
one or the other nmong the mnny
nvenucs of expression of our Chris-
tinn fnith Hecnuse of our human
frailty of pride we hnve n tendency
to insist that we hnve found the only
true path
We label ourselves and others
We divide into camps
We use pejorntiv e names for those
who do not believe as we do thoe
w ho pray differently thnn ourselves
In our emphasis upon certain
doctrinal differences we lose sight
of the sublime nnd transcendental
faith which ought to unite nil of us
1 I believe that God created the
whole universe whose dimensions
we cannot begin to understand In
the presence of this magnificent and
great God my overriding emotion
is one of humility and adoration
1 submit my life to hiswnl I con
nev er presume to impose my feeble
and imperfect knowledge nnd will
upon my God
2 1 believe in the divinity and
deity of Jesus the Christ I believe
him to be my Lord nnd my Savior
I marvel at his redemptive power
3 I believe in the living and
enduring renlity of the cross The
cross is the sy mbol of the imperfect
character of man nnd his need for
the redemptive love of God. The
cross is the symbol of God's
immeasurable and imponderable
love for his children
In the words of Malcolm Mug-
geridgo in Jesus Rediscovered
"The cross is where history and life
legend and truth time and eternity
intersoct Thero Jesus is nailed
forever to show us how God can
becomo man und mun might gam
a glimpse of God
These are some of the elements
which ought to unite us as members
of the Christian community of
McMurry Col I ego In the fact of the
monumental significance of these
things which unite us let no differ-
ence on trivial and peripheral issues
divide us
