Women's "Murals'
Get Underway
The women's Intramural Coun
cil met last week to set up the
schedule and regulations for the
forthcoming intramural games.
Each woman's social club has
entered a team and teams have
also been formed in the freshman
dorms and among upper classmen
independents.
Volleyball the first competi-
tion was to begin October 1 at
5:30 in Indian Gym.
All girls who arc interested in
this program and who are not
already listed as a member of
some team see Annette Marrs.
Those already listed on a team
roster but who have not paid
their 25 cents dues please see
Nelda Scott 201 President Hall
This 25 cents must be paid before
a girl is eligible to play.
ALONG WITH THE cheerleaders band and students who help boost school spirit nro the Mc-

as its goal the stimulation of
Christian thinking acting and
creativity on campus.
The group will perform in
chapel at MSM and in various
churches in the area. Following
most of the presentations discus-
sion groups will decide how what
the plays has presented may be
applied to life as we live it.
Also a vital part of this new
drama group will be the liturgical
dancers. This group will present
religious interpretations of church
music in the art form of bodily
movements in rhythm.

The members of MSM and Mc-
Murry theatre arc announcing n
new program area in drama this
year. It is a program which is
open to and urges participation
in by the whole student body.
Concerned with the Christian
aspects of life on the campus and
with the growing interest in
drama these two groups have
combined in presenting this new
program. Known as the Wesley
Players this new group will have
PolioVaccine Day
Held Last Sunday
Last Sunday was the first day
for Abilenians to get their Sabin
polio oral vaccine with locations
at five secondary schools eight
elementary locations and at Dyess
Air Force Base.
There was no charge for the
vaccine but donations were ac-
cepted and appreciated for the
cost of the doctors.
About 110000 residents of Tay-
lor and Jones counties had the
opportunity of taking the vaccine.
The next day for the distribution
of the vaccine will be November.
Everyone is urged to see about
getting the vaccine.
Judy Mathis
Assist. Director
Of McM Band
A native Abilenian and Mc-
Murry College graduate Miss
Judy Mathis has been employed
as assistant band director at Mc-
Murry according to an announce-
ment this week from Dr. Ray-
mond T. Bynum director of the
Indian Band.
Since her graduation from Mc-
Murry College Miss Mathis has
been band director and history
teacher at Trent Texas.
"Judy is one of the most ac-
complished and most versatile
musicians we have ever had"
said Professor Bynum. "We are
fortunate indeed to have her re-
turn to McMurry as assistant
band director."
Miss Mathis has been compos-
ing music since she was 16 years
old. She was a member of the
Abilene Philharmonic for nine
years.
In college she was elected to
Who's Who in American Colleges
and Universities. She is a mem-
ber of the National Association of
Rudimental Drummers Guild of
American Percussionists National
Association of College Wind and
Percussion Instructors and the
Texas Music Educators' Associa-
tion. In announcing Miss Mathis' ap-
pointment to the college staff
Professor Bynum pointed out
that her composing work is treat-
ed quite seriously and much has
been published.
