NOW HEAR THIS: There is
an article In the 1D28 TOTEM
on tne WAR WHOOP for that
year The Whoop editor in the
Roaring Twenties was Gordon
Webb who was a real rip-
roaring writer of the Old
School. The real clincher of
the whole thing Is this:
"There has been little real
difficulty in publishing the
WAR WHOOP this year al
though the editor has been
rather discouraged at times
by the great yawning gaps
mat gieeted him from the
make-up forms."
Well we've come to the con-
clusion that editing the
Whoou hasn't chanced much
in the laht forty years. Those
great yawning gaps ' on the
make-up page haven't gotten
any smaller ....

After everybody has had
their say on whether or not
Texas is a den of sectionalism
we'd like to cxerelse a little

in our two cents on the mat-

dent of several states wc have
always consldeied Texas su-

were shocked when somebody
said that Texans ate a bunch
of conceited Yankee-haters.

Is War Out Of Date?
Pity The Poor Frosh
By THOMAS KORMANN
This writer believes that

tion. War is hell " A man who
has fought In the war. should
be able to give the correct
outlook on war which is not
seen by men who have never
fought directly In the war.
Another man has said "I
have ncvei met anybody who
wasn't against war. Even Hit-
ler and Mussolnll wcie accord-

Kluushchev has said that he
doesn't want war. War Is not
wanted because it accomplish-
es nothing good.
One authority has said "So
far as business and money

Why Should Not
A Freshman
Pledge?
By ALICE FRAZER
For jolneis big wigs and
linsecuie bieeds pledging a
social club is a cure-all. True
Is the fact that she will be a
1 part of a swinging organiza-
tion but she will be another
classification; her peisonallty
will melt to fit a mold; and
I as an individual she's sunk
During rush week as the un-
suspecting prospective pledge
dutifully lgnotes lessons and
devotes her time to making all
the parties late gab sessions.

those wondctful powerful be-
ings who make pledging pos-
sible They begin with her
backgiound muddle through
her abilities and wind up with
a complete- moslac of her most
l feasible qualities. She has
parents money and ambition:

tilps to town and foi club
meetings; .she has a steady
beau who Is tops on campus;
but she will not do or pass

Immense new provinces." if
even the vlctoi of the war
gains nothing what good
could war do?
A man named Fred M. Vin-
son made the speech at Ail-
ington National Cemetery on
Memorial Day In 1945 and
said. "Wars not not 'acts of
God ' They are caused by man
by man-made institutions by
the way in which man has or-
ganlzed his society. What man
ims made man can change."
What Is man going to do
about his condition?
God has said something
about war. God declaies that
He will scatter the people that
delight In war God tells one
the cause of war One finds
in James 4:1 "Fiom whence
qome wars and fighting
among you? come they not
hence even of your lusts that
i war In your members?"
War Ls the devil's madness.
It is up to man to make peace
with all people. How can one
make peace' Peace Is a pio-
j duct of love Man must come
i to love his neighbor if he
wants to dispel war.
semester. Her only chance for
admittance to this sacred as-
sociation ls for her to stop
speaking to all members In
any other dub and quit play-
ing it so aloof when question-
ed on her preference club-
wise. If she survives msn she
will next be plagued hum
another angle. The process of
pledging lasts from six to ten
weeks in which time her club
sisters will feel peifectly fiee
to Invade her privacy studies
and fieedom by influencing
her to share her narrow sin-
gle bed with a stianded club
sister her cheat notes for bio-
logy lab and her best friend's
"fella" when he comes
through town. She will now
be expected to wear little mod-
ified "slime" caps &ing praises
to the older sisters and kiss
the ground of the officers.
Other Items aie too gruesome
to mention but are wo: thy
every tear and moment of
pain to the pledge who craves
security.
Pledging Is much too time-
consuming costly and mickey
mouse but when it starts this
semester. I'll be light at the
head of that line 'cause I'm
a joiner and I loeit!
