THE McMURRY WAR WHOOP
Pajre Throf
Tee Pee Tattler PITCHING DUEL BEARS WIN NINE TO ONE
Hy TROTT
By the time you rend this McMuivy's prospects foi
this season's baseball may be pretty well settled. Re-
membering that this way written on Thursday that if
the weather pennitted. we played Haylot yesterday (Fii-
day) you may understand the leason for this. If Mc-
Murry plays Hayloi a Rood game and theixs is a nice crowd
present we lmo a good chance of continuing baseball.
If it Roes to the extreme we may flunk out in the .sixnt.
Indian baseball really meets its ciisis over this week-
end. Frankly the team that looked so Rood at the stai t
of the season has disintegrated. Too many players have
dropped out. Coach Willis wdl know aftei Satuiday
whether ba.seball is to be continued or diopped.
If you didn't see the panic yesterday but wish to have
n McMurry baseball team this year diop out to Spoilsman
Paik this afternoon. It might help.
We know that all youiiR men .should fulfill theii duty
to their country but we can't but hope that Hob Shelton
gets n deferment which will allow him to finish this term.
This man fiom Tennessee can do a lot to keep baseball
in McMurry this year. Shelton can bat with the best
fields as well and he might bo able to do some lelief
pitching.
Lorin McMullon of the Star-Telegram rally went to
town on one of our McMurry eis the other day. In
looking over the Koit Woith Cats' tunning camp this
spiing Hill Gray was brought to his attention. You 10-
nieniber Giay as the six-lect-fne-Junioi who could toss a
football some seventy or eighty yauls.
Managers Hob Linton and Cecil Coombs noticed Hill
because of his size. After looking him over they became
interested. Ihey made several suggestions in legard to
changing his pitching form and as a result believe that
they have found something worth working on. Hy use
of his height Gray can be halfway to the plate before
he turns loose the pill. And he has lots of speed.
Linton admits that the big boy may never get any
farther than Class D and then again it's possible that he
could be another Dizzy Dean. The thing about Bill that
pleases Manager Linton most is ability to catch on. He
was tembly awkward when he first appeared on the
scene but he has caught on to seevral tricks which aid
him in both his pitching and fielding.
The best thing we can say for Bill comes from the
fact that Linton is well-pleased in picking the ex-Indian
pitcher to bo taken to spring training. He picked Gray
and Eldon Hill a catcher as the most prospective rookies
that he saw this year.
An amusing note from spiing training. Seveial of
the boys can't understand why Elmo Cure to be married
is so haid to please. Every afternoon he has them push-
ing a heavy slide about the football field. He's never
satisfied. They no moie than get it up to one end than
he decides he would like to have it at the other end.
Being as undecided as he is about whole he -wants it the
boys just naturally keep going in ciicles tiying to please
him. Stick to it boys. They tell me that it will make a
man of you if you stick with it long enough.
