the year to which all the school

first year that a football queen
has been chosen.
Dick O'Brien of Stamford will
be the main spcakct. The theme
of the banquLt is to be a secret
to all except the committeemen

VICE-PREXY OF STATE
CONFERENCE AT MEET
D'Rhea Allison in the recent
annual meeting of the Texas State
Student Conference viec-prosi-dents
to represent the Northwest
Texas area. Allison is president
of the McMurry SCRA. He stated
tint "On a whole the Conference
showed nn increase in interest of
Texas Methodist college students
in the religious program of the
church." He further said "that
the conference showed the place
that college students occupy in
the mind of church leaders ''
Twenty colleges were represent-
ed at the conference Among the
outstanding schools were: SMU
Texas University. Texas Tech
McMurry NTSTC and TSCW of
Denton McMurry had charge of
the opening worship program
which was the keynote worship
program of the entire conference
There were five study courses
taught with the following being i
the leaders: Mrs. Dewitt Baldwin
H. Bollinger C W. Hall andj
Kenneth Pope. Dr. Colwell Dean
of the Divinity Schol of Chicago!
University was the platform
speaker.

was elected as president of the
conference for the coming year.

dents from McMurry attended an
invitation debate tournament at
San Marcos. Students represent-

bate coach accompanied the stu-
dents on the trip.

In the regular monthly meeting
of the SCRA Monday night defi-
nite plans were made for a Christ-
mas party on Wednesday night
Dec. 11 in the Wigwam. Com-
mittees were appointed to make
arrangements for the occasion
Reports from the vanous com-
mittees were given at this business
session with D'Rhea Allison pres-
ident in charge. A code of ethics
was set up for the Wigwam Plans
for speakers were discussed Some
very interesting speakers during
the next semester nnd stude nts
are urged to take the opportunity
of hearing and having personal
conferences with them Dates for
their visits will be announced later.

definite call to be God's ambassa-

Clubs in Abilene
"That evil power behind the pen
which has caused wars can be dc-
stioyed only b honest journal-
ists ' was a statement made by
the brilliant author Bertita Hard-
ing in an interview following her
lectuic given in high school au-
ditorium Tuesday evening De-
cember 3 She continued by ex-
plaining that the teachers are al-
ways idealists who teach honest
journalism but the pupils often
fail to follow their instructions.
Mrs. Harding who wrote "Phan-

spoke on "The Tower Behind tho

ground of her books.
She was born in Bavaria of an
Austrian father and a Hungarian
mother whose families had long
been prominent in the Hnpsbuig
coutt life. It was from the royal-
ty of this court that she has taken
the characters of her books.
Her mothei was sent by Em-
peror Fianz Josef to Mexico
when Mrs. Hnulln was three to
recover the Hapsburg jewels which
hud been left m Mexico with her
mother she was told many stories
by MaximilUan and Carlota and
became so fascinated by the stones
that she years later wrote it
in novel form as "The Phantom
Crown" This was her first book.
When asked about the present
war situations Mrs Hat din replied
"I am optimistic. All gicat

"Socialized Medicine" was the
subject of a talk made by Dr.
It. W. Varner at an Alpha Chi
meeting Tuesday night In the Wig-
wam. Members of the Pre-Med
Club were special guests.
"Socialized Medicine Is medicine
practiced under supervision nnd
guidance of a state a state being
composed of n group of people"
Dr. Varner said In the couise
of his address he pointed out tho
following disadvantages of social-
ized medicine the county judge
or inspector will tell the doctor
how to trcnt his patients; social-
ized medicine in European coun-
tries has made medical practice in-
ferior there; the doctors will give
only eight hours a day to tho
work whereas they have been giv
ing fourteen to eighteen hours and
fewer patients can be treated.
It will stifle any energetic in-
dividual and stop any inventive

bird AB and RALPH were handy
to make her quit going from one
extreme to the other. . . DOPEY
and BOB did a little bit of hunt-
