DAVID SKIPPER
Coming into this world on
June 26, 1956, at Johnson Air
Force Base in Yokota, Japan,
was David Vernon Skipper alias
“Skip Baby”. The proud par-
ents are Mr. and Mrs. Tommie
Skipper.
When David says he’s travel-
ed some, you might call it an
understatement. Tokyo, Japan;
Athens, Greece; Ankara and
Izmir, Turkey; Zurich, Switzer-
land; Rome, Italy; Paris,
France; Germany; Iceland;
and Canada have all been
visited by the Skipper family at
one time or another. The east
coast and southern states have
been visited and lived in by the
Skipper family.
Consequently David has
attended a variety of schools.
His first three grades were
spent at Halandria and Hele-
nak, American Community
Schools of Athens. He returned
to the states in 1965 and at-
tended Empire Elementary in
Empire, Michigan. He went to
Mary Hull Elementary and Sul
Ross Jr. High, both in San An-
tonio, which brought him up to
the year 1969. From 1969 to 1971
David was a student at George
C. Marshall Regional Jr. High
and High School in Ankara,
Turkey. Finally, in 1971, Harper
High School was honored with
the appearance of David to fin-
ish his high school years.
While David was in Turkey,
he played football, basketball
and soccer. He was high point
man in basketball with 225
points for the season. He was
also a member of the wrestling
team and was the champion
wrestler of all the weight divi-
sions.
During his sophomore year he
was class favorite, member of
the F.F.A., 4-H, and was secre-
tary-treasurer of the Rifle Club.
Also he was a member of the
Science and Math Clubs.
David’s junior year saw him
in the F.F.A., the secretary-
treasurer of the 4-H Rifle Club,
and he portrayed the part of
Bob Nelson in the junior play.
The senior year found David
very busy. He belongs to the
Science Club, Math Club, Rodeo
Club, Spanish Club, and Student
Council. He served as Spanish
Club vice-president. He was
chosen by the student body as
Runner-Up for Mr. H.H.S. and
chosen by the faculty as Run-
ner-Up for Best All-Around.
In sports David lettered in
football three years. This year
he made all district in football
and was chosen as Outstanding
Offensive Player in football.
Also David made the All-Star
team in the football game which
will be played in July. He was
also tri-captain of the football
team. He letered three years in
basketball and made all-district
in track. He was chosen Best All
Around basketball player this
year. 'This year David entered
the world of golf and won second
at district golf and went to Re-
gional and won All-District.

SENIOR BARBECUE
We were favored with beauti-
ful weather for our senior bar-
becue. Most of the seniors spent
some of the day preparing food
for the meal and them too, just
tyring to be helpful.
For the adults who so graci-
ously gave of their time we want
to say, “Thank you”.
Many of the citizens of our
area took time to come to our
barbecue. To them may we say,
“Thank you.” Their support
will make our trip more suc-
cessful.
The funds derived from this
project will go for our senior
trip. We would like to thank Mr.
and Mrs. Massey for helping us
and also the men who helped cut
up the meat, also the mothers
who helped fix the beans and
potato salad.
We made a total profit of
approximately $200. We would
especially like to thank Marvin
Williams for donating $50 to our
class. lgw hwf

Of Lunquist
and Petri Paintings
Carey Behrends, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Arno Behrends, as
staff member of the display
department of Texas Memorial
Museum, Austin, is searching
for photos of paintings of the re-
nowned artists, Herman Lun-
quist and Richard Petri.
These two well-known artists
were in Fredericksburg in the
mid-1800’s. Behrends stated
that Texas Memorial Museum
prizes its some 800 slides on
these two brothers-in-law. He
was in Fredericksburg with his
wife over the weekend looking
for a print of the painting which
appeared in the March 28, 1956
issue of The Radio Post.
A 1964 graduate of FHS, Beh-
rends holds a bachelor of
science degree in commercial
art from Southwest Texas State
University. Under Dr. W. W.
Newcomb, he is also trying to
set up a conservation workshop
to be held at the Museum.
The Museum, incidentally
offers college credit in muse-
ology for students at The Uni-
versity of Texas. The study of
Museums is limited to 15 to 20,
however. The demand much
greater than this.
Behrends says, “If any school
group wishes to tour the Mu-
seum, an appointment with date
and number in group is helpful
in that tour guides are now pro-
vided.”
“I’m just back from Toronto,
Canada,” Behrends stated,
“where I was thrilled to attend
a conservation seminar at the
Royal Ontarian Museum which
employs no less than 450 per-
sons.”
When graphite was discov-
ered in England in the 16th
century, it was considered
so valuable that soldiers
guarded it night and day.
