Karate class
receives gold belts
KATHERINE MORRISON
Yellow Jacket Staff Writer
Last semester when the
student body took to their
books for finals (maybe for
the first time) eight students
in the Karate class took to the
gym to study their high kicks.
The group tested for the first
level in Karate the gold belt.
Instructor Jason Davis exhib-
ited much confidence in his
pupils as they approached the
test date.
"They are perfectly pre-
pared" Davis said. "They
have done a great job and
teally worked hard."
The eight students that
participated were Bryan
Downs Margie Hitzfelder
Kathey Howey Richard
Bleth Jeremy Gallion Frank
Wacholtz Clair Short and
Heather McAfee. Two days
before testing Education ma-
jor Kathy Howey injured her
knee but chose to participate

Head Coaches have received
their walking papers; should
there be more? I believe at
least one more ax should fall.
The time has come for Jerry
Jones to send Barry Switzer
back to Oklahoma where he
belongs. Over the past foot-
ball season the Dallas Cow-
boys went through lots of in-
ner team turmoil from the
many injuries during training
camp to the multiple drug
suspensions. Without a disci-
plinarian to make them toe
the line the Cowboys were
in disarray.
With the exits of great
coaches like George Seifert
Bill Parcells and Bobby
anyway.
"An important thing to
remember is that it's not just
about the glory of a gold belt
but it is the discipline work
out and fellowship that is the
real reward" Howey said.
Many might believe that
studying for a gold belt is
completely physical this is
not the whole truth. A lot of
mental concentration is in-
volved. A student must re-
member the right steps re-
main focused and aggressive
all under a tremendous
amount of pressure and time
constraint.
The "kiahti" that is
screamed after each move
promotes the aggressive
moves during practice.
"Kiahti" allows the person to
release air from their dia-
phragm and by doing this pro-
duces a forceful move as well
as breath control. Secondly
the "kiahti" yell tells your
Ross the Cowboys have a
chance to grab a great coach
and disciplinarian. The San
Francisco 49ers let Seifert go
to insure that they get Steve
Mariuchi as their coach of the
future now. Seifert learned
his craft under the great Bill
Walsh and coached with the
likes of Viking head coach
Dennis Green Packer head
coach Mike Holmgren and
Bronco head coach Mike
Shannahan.
Bill Parcells leaves the
New England Patriots after
reaching the Super Bowl and
not reaching an agreement
with owner Bob Kraft on
power. Parcells is a proven
winner in this league and he

books or painfully practicing
all eight students endured
their grueling test and passed.

thing the Cowboys desper-
ately need.
Bobby Ross now of the
Detroit Lions would have
been the perfect fit here in
Dallas but he just took that
job. Ross rules with the
heaviest of iron fists and de-
mands total control of his
team which is the complete
opposite of Switzer.
Does Jerry Jones really
believe that Switzer is a bet
high aspirations of conquer-
ing the next level in Karate

Parcells or Ross? I should
hope not. Switzer inherited a
club that was built by Jimmy
Johnson and now those play-
ers continue to leave every
season for more money and
better coaching. Dallas now
has to rely on the draft to build
back up their talent level and
we all know how good they
have been on that in the last
three years. Drafting the likes
of Shante Carver and Kavika
Pitman with their first picks
in the draft is awful. Neither
player has developed into
what was promised by Jones
and Switzer. At best both are
back-up players in this league.

Jerry Jones needs to get
someone in here that can
evaluate talent and be a dis-
ciplinarian on and off the
field. Jerry if you are out
there listening please give
George Seifert or Bill Parcells
a call. If not for the fans who
demand a winner for the
players who need a strong
