"Skittles" Is Just Clowing Around In Ministry
By Gail Coupland
While walking into the Sunday
school class Skittles the Clown trips
over an imaginary object and falls
through the doorway; he then blames it
on the unlucky soul who happens to be
behind him.
Let's face it. Greg Lewis (Skittles)
makes a terrific clown.
Some admirable traits that make
Lewis a sophomore from Burleson so
good at this unusual pursuit include his
outgoing nature his desire to do God's
will and his leadership qualities.
Most of Lewis's spare time is spent
socializing. "I like to spend as much
time as I can with my friends" said
Lewis. "It helps me blow off steam and
take a break from studying."
Lewis is definitely a people person.
He knew he worked well with children
but it wasn't until he took a job as
youth minister this summer that he
realized he was compatible with youth
as well.
In fact Lewis's whole career is
geared toward people. His major is
practical theology which he plans to use
in church work and he is also interested
in counseling.
With a willing heart Lewis serves

the Lord. His job as a youth minister
in Sacrcmcnto CA last summer
illustrates Lewis's willingness to be a
servant.
"I never considered myself to be a
youth minister type" said Lewis "but
just to show mc he has a sense of
humor God decided I should be one."
Even though Lewis had no prior
training he took what he had learned
from his own youth director and put it
into practice.
"This experience showed mc that
even though I have some preconceived
ideas about what I think God will do
God doesn't hold mc to that. I just
showed him that I was willing to be
available to him and God used mc"
Lewis explained.
Even though this meant "going
solo" as Lewis put it and having no
one there to rely on except for the Lord
Lewis was willing to take that step of
faith.
Lewis is involved in many
organizations on campus which allow
him to use his leadership skills. He is
not just a part of these organizations but
takes an active role in each one.
He is the band chaplain and is in
charge of making sure a devotional is
prepared each week. He is also the
recruiting chairman for student
foundations.
As of this year he is the team leader
for the BSU clown ministry. Lewis is
in charge of planning and organizing
meetings and outings for the clown
group as well as serving on the BSU
executive council.
Lewis is an excellent example of just
how busy a college student's life can be.
In all of these activities though Lewis
finds time to spend with his friends to
serve the Lord and to be a leader in
campus activities.
