Do you think Chapel should be a requirement?
Patience...
More Than A Virtue
By: Connie Haynes
"But the fruit of the Spirit is...patience..." (Galatians 5:22).
There was a certain thing that I had wanted for a long time.
I had waited and had at least for a little while contented with
the assurance that that God would give it to me in time.
Then there came a time when it seemed that I was about to
get my wish.
I was ecstatic at first with the thought of actually seeing this
dream come true. But soon my rejoicing was replaced by my
constant efforts to see that this really did happen.
I stopped waiting on God to make my dream come true. I
took things into my own hands and I found myself working and
worrying day and night to make this thing happen.
Things looked good for a while but I eventually found this
desire taking the place of all the joy and peace that had taken
place before in my life. I even found myself unable to pray or
worship God because I could not concentrate on anything but
this desire.
Well after a while I took a good look at my life which
never seemed to be a very happy one anymore. And finally I
decided that I had had enough.
I finally gave the dream back to God. And when I did I found
that it really wasn't time yet for the dream to come true.
And if it had it would have been less than God had intended
to give me.
And I regained the joy and peace I had known before and was
assured once again that God is in control and will bring it to pass
when it is time. And when it happens it won't cost me my
peace and joy. It will increase it if I wait on God.
Patience sounds okay to us when we read it on paper but it is
not something we like to practice in our lives. (It is not in mine
anyway.)
However it is something we should all work on for the sake
of our joy our peace of mind and our receiving the things God
has for us in their fullness.

Kim Cox:
"We should have chapel
because HPU is a
Christian school and I
think that it is nice to
have a place where you can
go during school and pray
and sing and get some kind
of boost to make it
through the week. When I
was in public school I
missed the opportunity to
be able to include God in
on school and with chapel
you can do that. Besides
by the time the end of the
week rolls around I get
kinda burned out and every
once in a while
something in chapel
happens and you get really
uplifted."
Lori Ascher:
"I think that chapel should
be required because this is
a Christian campus. If
you do not want to go to
chapel then you should go
to another school. We are
not just at HPU to get an
education but to grow in
Christ and learn more
about God and chapel is
the class that we have to
take to do that."

Scott Terrell:
"I don't think that chapel
should be required because
we get enough church.
We go to church on
Sunday and Wednesday and
we just should have to go'
two other times. It is
great to worship the Lord
and all but we need to use
the time for our studies."
Melinda Murray:
"I think that chapel is a
good idea for a Christian
school. I personally enjoy
chapel. There are people
who are on this campus
not because it is a
Christian school but
because of other reasons
like sports. With chapel
they are given the
opportunity to be exposed
to what life is about. I do
wish that some of the
more boring stuff would
be cut out though. I wish
that there were more
absences available because
if it is going to be a
requirement then there
needs to be a little bit
more lee-way. I had to get
exempt from it because I
wouldn't have been able to
meet the abscence
requirement and would
have failed. Other people
were probably in the same
situation and now just do
not go at all."

Lisa Jones:
"I think that chapel should
be required simply because
it is a Christian school.
There needs to be a
Christian influence when
you come to a Christian
school. I know alot of
people that do not like it
and they say that it cuts
into their free time because
you can't schedule a class
there but when you go to
school you1 are just
expected to follow their
rules. I think that chapel
is one of those rules and
besides you can have fun
at chapel."
Thomas Davis:
"I understand that it is a
tradition but I personally
have other things to do
every single Monday and
Wednesday. Every once in
a while I have time to go
and I do go but I usually
need the time to study or
catch up on my sleep
because I have studied too
much the night before. I
think chapel is a good
idea but I do not think
that it is a good idea to
require it. We just
shouldn't be forced to go.
I don't think we should use
chapel to force God on
people they should come
to Him of their own free
will."

Bill McDaniel:
"I think that we should
have chapel because it
helps the students grow as
Christians. It also gives
us an opportunity to do
something together as a
student body. I really
enjoy the feeling of having
the campus come together
and worship God. I also
think that if you do not
pass chapel for all the
required semesters then
you should not be able to
graduate."

Scott Rinehart:
"If you are feeling down
chapel is a pick-me-up.
For the non-Christians
that attend HPU chapel is
one of the only times that
they will ever hear about
Jesus and what he could do
for their lives."
